The following is a transcription of the will provided to me and made by John F Howes - February 2013

Memorand that upon or about the ffirst day of September in the yeare of our lord one thousand sixe hundred and seventy William Paine of Eastgrinsted in the county of Sussex, yeoman deced, beinge sicke in body but of p’fect minde and memory declared his will nuncupative in these words following or words to the same effect (viz)

what estate god hath pleased upon me in this p’sent world I will and bequeath it to be equally divided between my own kindred and my wife. Imedyately after the decease of Anne my loving wife the use and benefit of the land, estate less the principall not being spent but keept for my kindred and my sones I give to my loving Anne aforesaid.

Note by John Howes: William Paine of East Grinstead married Susan Humphrey on 5 May 1663. Was she known as Anna ?
