The following is a transcription of the will provided to me and made by John F Howes - March 2012

Memorandum that Walter Payne of West Hothley in the countie of Sussex yeoman in the tyme of his sicknes whereof he died and on the fourteenth day of March in the yeare of our Lord god according to the computation of the Church of England 1613 beinge of p’fect mynde and memorie made and declared his last will and testament nuncupative in the manner and forme following or the like in effect viz: first he commended his soule into the hands of God that gave it and his bodie hee left to the earth from whence it was taken therein to be decentlie buried.
Item he gave to the poore of West Hothley six shillings eight pence.
Item he gave to the widow Jeale xij d.
Item he gave to Elizabeth Jeale one ewe and one lambe to be delivered at shearing tyme next.
Item he gave to Richard Payne his kinsman his beste wearing suite of apparel.
Item he did further will and bequeath unto Anne Payne his wife all the parsonage tythes of all his lands in West Hothley aforesaid to have and to hold unto his said wife during her naturall lyfe.
 The residue of all his goods and chattels he gave unto Anne his wife whom he did make and ordaine his sole and onelie executrix of this his last will and testament being p’nte and sharing the p’rmisses diverse and sundrie witnesses.
