The following is a transcription of the will provided to me and made by John F Howes - February 2013

In the name of God amen, the ffirst day of ffebruary 1667 according to the computation of the Church of England I Thomas Payne of Horsted Keynes in the County of Sussex yeoman being of p’fect memory and remembrance prayse bee unto God I doe make and ordaine my last will and testamt in manner and forme following ffirst I bequeath my soule unto the hands of Almighty God my maker hoping through the death and passion of Jesus Christ my saviour and redeemer t receive pardon for all my sinnes and as for my body to bee buried in Christian burial att the discretion of my Executr hereafter named
Item I give unto the poore of the pishe of Horsted twenty shillings to be disposed by my Executrix hereafter named to be given to those that have most need.
Item I give my land called ffreshfield and Kitborrowe or by whatsoever name or names that the same or any part thereof are called or known unto John Browne and John Vinall and their heirs whereby the said John Browne and John Vynall and the heires of them and their heirs may bee imp--ered to make an conveyance of the same to any p’son or p’sons whatsoever hereby willing the said sevrall lands abovesd to be sould by them the said John Browne of Hoathly yeoman and John Vynall of Horsted Keynes yeoman and their heires for the paymt of my sevrall debts and the remainder of money arising by such sale I will unto my said daughters Sarah and Elizabeth. And my mind is that the said John Browne and John Vinall shall dispose of the moneyes arising from such sale unto the end and purpose aforesaid and uppon their account to be discharged by my Executrix.
And all my goods, cattles and chattells whatsoever to be sold: And all my debts being paid the remainder to my two daughters by my overseers to be payed when they shall come to the age of one and twenty years.
If my two daughters sarah and Elizabeth hapen to die before they come of age then all the remainder of the goods above named unto Sarah my wife and her heires.
Item I give unto my wife Sarah all my land called by the name of Crooches or by whatsoever other names lyeing in Horsted aforesaid conteyning by estimation threescore acres of land more or less lyeing and being in Horsted aforesaid during her naturall life and after her decease to the use of her daughters Sarah and Elizabeth and to their heires for ever.
Item I make my Sarah my wife whole and sole executrix of this my last will and testamt and I appoynte John Browne and John Vynall to bee overseers of this my last will and testamt whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale the day & year first above written,
