The following is a transcription of the will provided from the SFHG library - Transcribed by Dave Woolven September 2008

The last Will and Testament of Richard Payne of Ardingligh in the County of Sussex deceased made and declared the eighth day of January Anno Dni 1673 stilo Anglia as followeth. 
Item I give to my daughter Mary thirty pounds to be paid to her when shee shall accomplish the age of one and twenty yeares and my minde and will is that my daughter Sarah shall have the interest of her portion for five yeares after my decease afterwards the interest shall goe to my executrix and executor hereafter named for the mayntenance of my youngest daughters Jane and Hanah. 
Item I give to my daughter Jane thirty pounds to be paid to her when shee shall accomplish the age of one and twenty yeares. 
Item I give to my daughter Hannah thirty pounds to be paid to her when shee shall accomplish the age of one and twenty yeares and my minde is that the interest of my two youngest daughters portions shall be imployed towards their bringing upp. 
Item I give to my brother Thomas Payne forty shillings to be paid to him wthin one yeare after my decease. 
Item I give more to my daughter Mary twenty shillings to be paid her wthin one yeare after my decease. 
Item all the rest of my goods chattells and cattell before ungiven I give to my loveing wife Jane Payne whoe I make executrix and Thomas Brett of Balcombe executor in trust of this my last Will and Testamt

The Will of Richard Payne late of Ardingligh was proved 21 May before BLANK Thurman, AM, Surrogate by Jane Payne the relict & executrix named in the said Will.


 

 

NOTE:  The year of proving has not been shown but the previous Will in the ledger was proved 20 May 1673.  DW
