The following is a transcription of the will provided from the SFHG library - Transcribed by Dave Woolven September 2008

In Dei nomine Amen I Richard Payne of Hapsett in the parrishe of Erthinglye* beinge sicke in bodye but of perfect memorye doe make this my last will and Testament in manner and forme followinge.  Inprimis I bequeath my soule unto Almightye God and my Saviour Jesus Christe by whome I hope to bee saved and my bodye to bee buryed in the church yarde of Erthinglye*. 
Item I give unto my daughter Anne the some of fortye pounds to bee paid unto her the nyne and twentith of Marche wch shalbee in the yere of our Lord God 1610. 
Item I give unto her one fether bedd, one fether boulster, twoe pillowes twoe, twoe payre of sheetes and one coverlet and a payre of blancketts.
Item I give unto her one iron pott one brasse posnett beinge the greatest but one. 
Item I give unto her a pa..? of be... 
Item I give unto her a woollen wheele &  one lynnen wheele. 
Item I give unto Joane Balcombe the daughter of Richard Balcombe of Bal... one sheepe. 
Item I give unto Elizabeth Payne the daughter of my sonne Edward one sheepe. 
Item I unto the poore of this parrishe of Erthinglye* six shillings eight pence. 
Item I give unto my daughter Anne ... thirtye twoe pounds tenn shillings wch is the hands of Ninyan? Brok...of the parrishe of Balcombe. 
Item all the rest of my goods and chattels moveable and unmoveable I give unto my sonne Edward whome I make my sole and onelye executor of this my last will and Testament. 
In witnesse whereof I have sett my hand this two and twentith of September Anno1606.  The marke of Richard Payne.
Signed and made in the presence of us Richard Ritson? and George Lindfielde

This Will was proved before William Imans, Priest, AM, Surrogate &c 15 April 1606 by Edward Payne the son & executor of the deceased.

NOTE:  Taken from a very poor photocopy, the text has gone off the right hand side of the page and the page gets darker & darker to almost black at the foot.  DW
*NOTE:  There is now certainly no parish of this name in Sussex, I assume that this is Ardingly from where many Paynes come.  DW
