In the name of God Amen the twenty ninth day of December in the twenty seaventh yeare of the raigne of our Sovraigne Lord Charles the Second by the grace of God King of England Scotland France and Ireland defender of the faith &c and in the yeare of our Lord God 1675 I John Payne of Ardingly in the County of Sussex cooper being sicke and weake but in pfect minde and memory thanks be to Almighty God revokeing all former Wills by me made doe make and appoint this my last Will and Testament in manner followeing that is to say. 
My minde and will is that after my decease all my goods (except those goods) I doe bequeath to my loveing wife Anne Payne dureing her life shall be ... to ....  And when thirty pounds is raysed upon my said goods I doe hereby impower my executor in trust to take and receive the said thirty pounds into their hands to be lett out for interest.  And after my wifes decease to be dispose of according to the ... intent and meaninge of this my will. 
Inprimis.  Item I give and bequeath unto my loveing wife Anne Payne the sume of three pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid to her pr’tly after her decease, more I give unto her my said wife a feather bed & two boulsters ... pillow, two [text obliterated.  DW] a cubbord, a brass kettle ............................., a box, a little chest, four? peeces of pewter, a iron pott, a brass ....., a bedsteed, three curtains & iron rodes and the interest of thirty pounds dureing her naturall life. 
Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne Alexander Payne the sume of forty shillings of lawfull money of England. 
Item I give and bequeath unto his eldest sonne John Payne the sume of five pounds of lawfull money of England. 
Itm I give and bequeath unto my daughter Joan the sume of five pounds of lawfull money of England.  I
give to my sonne John Payne the sume of five shillings of lawfull money of England. 
Item I give unto his eldest sonne John Payne the sume of five pounds of lawfull money of England. 
I give and bequeath unto my daughter Jane the sume of seaven pounds of lawfull money of England. 
Item I give and bequeath to my two sonnes William and Richard Payne the sume of five shillings a peece of lawfull money of England. 
Item I give and bequeath to my two very good freinds whome I doe make my executors in trust the sume of two shillings and six pence a peece by names John Wheeler of Lyard and John Kittingbeeke?.  And after my wives decease if my two grandchildren be not of the age of one and twenty yeares my minde and will is that my executors in trust shall keepe the said tenn pounds in their hands till they come to age paying noe interest to any of them for the same. 
Item I give and bequeath to my two sonnes in law Thomas Buckler and Andrew Fenn whome I doe make and appoint joint executors of this my will & Testamt.  All my household goods given to my wife after her decease to be equally divided betweene them. 
Itm and the rest of my goods being all sold my debts paid and funerall expences discharged what then shall remayne to be equally divided betweene my two sonnes John and William Payne. 
In witnes whereof I have sett my hand and seale the day and yeare above written.  John Payne his mke.
