The following is an abstract of the will provided from Documents held at East Sussex Record Office  SAS-RF/2/69 : Probate of the Will of this date of John Payne of Brambletye, yeoman   15 Mar 1555

To be buried in the churchyard of Estgrynsted
Gifts to each of his godchildren 4d. To 10 of the poorest women in the parish, 4d. a piece.
To Johan his wife 4 of his best kyne and all his household stuff, with half of his corn
Devise to son John in fee of the tenement at Waldron called Woodplace, he to pay to testator's wife 33s.4d. a year for life
To son Edward in fee the tenement at Waldron called Selwyns, he paying yearly to testator's said wife 26s.8d. for life. And reserving to said wife during widowhood a chamber which is on the halle, with free going and coming to the said chamber; she to have the upbringing of Edward until he come of age
To son Thomas, 26s.8d. To daughters, Katheryne, Ales, Tomazyn, to each 6s. and a mark.
To daughter Elizabeth £10 and all her own cattle.
To John Payne, son of William Payne, and John Payne, son of Edward Payne, a year-old bullock each.
To the children of Wm. Langrege a two-year old bullock
Residuary legatee and executor: son John. Supervisor: brother Edward Payne.
Witnesses: John Parker, curat., John Payn senr. and Thomas Cheney.
