The following is a transcription of the will provided to me and made by John F Howes - March 2012

In the name of God amen, the seaven and twentieth day of jone in the year of our Lord god one thousand six hundred and three I Edward Paine of Westhothlye in the county of Sussex yeoman being sick and weak in body but of good and p’fect minde and memorie, god be thanked doe ordaine and make this my pr’te testamt ans last will in manner and forme following.
First I give and bequeath my soule to almighty god whom I elieve to be saved by.  And my body to be buryed within the church yard of Westhothlye aforesaid. Also my will and mind is to have bestowed amonge the poore people of Westhothlye aforesaid at my buriall six shillings and eight pence.
Item I give and bequeath unto Marie my daughter thirtie pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid unto her within one yeare after my decease.
Also I give and bequeath to my daughter Margaret, Henry Munkes wife one bullock of a yeare ould to be delivered unto her within three monthes after my decease.
And furthermore I give unto my daughter Elizabeth, William Neales wife one bullock of the age aforesaid to be delivered unto her within three monthes after my decease as aforesaid.
The residue of all my goodes and cattells nott given nor bequeathed, my debts and legacies first paid, I wholly leave and give unto George my sonne whom I doe ordaine and make my onely whole executor of this my saide last will and testament to all things herein in rely and trustie to be executed as my truste is in him, dated the daie and yeare above written.

Probate in Latin to Georgii Payne on 6 May 1604.
