In the name of God Amen in the yere of owre Lord God 1557 and in the XViij daye of March I Walter Feldwyke in the paryshe of Westhothlygh in the cowntie of Sussex and in the deiocys of Chechester beynge syke of bodye but holle of mynd and perfect of remembrance thanks be unto allmyghtye god do ordayne and make this my present testament and last wyll in manner and forme followynge Fyrst and before all other thyngs I geve and commette my soulle unto allmyghtye god my maker and redemer desyrynge owre blessed Ladye Saynte Marye with all the holye company of heaven to pray for me and my bodye I bequethe unto the yerth to be buryed in the chyrcheyard of Westhothyghe aforesayd and as tocheyng the dystrybucyon of my temprall goods my porposse ys by the grace of god to bestowe them to be exseptted as frewts of fayth Fyrst I well and bequeth to be bestowed at my buriall or within one monyth after my dessese Viij s unto powre peoplle at the dyscresyon of myne executor

In the name of God Amen. In the year of our Lord God 1557 & on the 18 day of March, I Walter Felwyke of the parish of West Hoathly in the County of Sussex and in the Diocese of Chichester being sick of body but whole of mind and perfect of remembrance thanks be unto Almighty God do order and make this my present testament & last will in manner and form following. First & before all other things I give & bequeath my soul unto Almighty God my maker & redeemer desiring our blessed Lady Saint Mary with all the holy company of Heaven to pray for me & my body I bequeath to the earth to be buried in the churchyard of West Hoathly aforesaid & as touching the disposition of my temporal goods my purpose is by the grace of God to bestow them to be excepted as fruits of faith.
First I will and bequeath to be bestowed at my funeral or within 1 month after my decease 8s unto poor people at the discretion of my executor.
Item I give to the mother church of Chichester 4d.
Item I give & bequeath unto the reparations of the church of West Hoathly aforesaid 6s 8d.
Item I bequeath the vicar of West Hoathly & the parson of Ardingly for tithes negligently forgotten to either of them 6d.
Item I give to Agnes my daughter 20s. Item to her children another 20s to be divided between them in equal portions to be paid out of my money which is in the hands of John Acars her husband.
Item I give and bequeath unto Jone Jeffrey, Thomsin Payne, Elizabeth Umfrey, Clement Payne, Margaret Gasson, and Eme Gatland my daughters £3 that is to say to every of them 10s to be paid unto every of them within 1 quarter of a year of my decease.
Item I give & bequeath unto An (Agnes deleted) my daughter £10 10s of good & lawful money of England with all other things which she had by the gift of her mother or hath of her owing the said £10 10s to be paid unto her when she shall accomplish the age of 22 years if it fortune that the said Agnes marry before she shall accomplish the age aforesaid that then it is my will that she have & be paid the said sum at the day of her marriage.
Item I give & bequeath unto John Benet my godson 40s to be paid within half a year of my decease.
Item I will & bequeath unto Thomas Holman 13s 4d to be paid to him within a quarter of a year after my decease.
Item I give to Jone Holman daughter to Jeffrey Holman 40s to be paid unto her when she should accomplish 16 years of age. Item it is my will that if the said Jone Holman do die before she accomplish the age of 16 years as aforesaid that then I will her portion of the 40s to be equally divided and shared between the children of John Holman which he hath or will have by my daughter Jone.
Item I give unto Drew Holman one twelvemonthling bullock immediately after my decease.
Item I give unto Walter Felwyke & William Felwyke my sons’ sons to every of them a cow to be delivered to their use immediately after my decease.
Item I give & bequeath unto Richard Jeffrey and Walter Umfrey my grandsons to every of them 3s 4d.
Item I give unto John Gatland my grandson one sheep.
Item I give unto my daughters children except before appointed & named 12d a piece to be paid immediately after my decease.
Item I give & bequeath to every of my grandchildren 4d.
Item I give & bequeath unto Margaret my wife £3 6s 8d & all such goods of her own whatsoever that she brought unto me to be paid & delivered unto her within one half year next after my decease.
The residue of all my goods chattels & debts after my debts paid my funeral expenses discharged & these my legacies fulfilled I wholly give unto John Velwyke my son whom I ordain & make my whole Executor. Item I ordain & make John Acars my overseer to see all things herein justly & truly executed according to the true meaning hereof as my special trust is in them he will so do & he to have for his pains in that behalf 3s 4d.
