The following is a transcription of the will made by John F Howes August 2012:

In the name of god amen the twenty fifth day of September one thousand six hundred and ninety six I Henry Faulkner of Westhoadly in the county of Sussex yeom, being sick in body but of good and perfect memory (praised be god for it) do make & ordaine this my last will & testamt in manner & form following.
Item I give and devise all that my messuage, barnes, tenemts and premises called or known by the name of Newcomb lying & being in Westhoadly in the county of Sussex unto Elizabeth Faulkner my loving wife during the term of her naturall. And after her decease I give & devise the sd messuage, tenemt, lands & premises with the appert’nces unto Robt Payne my grandson and his heirs & assigns for ever.
Item I give unto my son-in-law Robt Payne five pounds to be paid unto him two years after my executor hereafter named shall attain the age of one & twenty years.
Item I give unto my daughter Sarah Payne wife of Robert Payne to be paid unto her two years after my executor hereafter named shall attain the age of one & twenty years and my will and meaning is that my daughter Sarah Payne shall have the five pounds for her own use and disposition.
Item I give unto Elizabeth Payne, Mary Payne, Sarah Payne and Willm Payne my grandchildren, children of the sd Robt Payne & Sarah Payne five pound a peece to be paid unto them when they shall attain the age of one & twenty years to be paid by my executors hereafter named. And my will & meaning is that if any of my grandchildren before named shall dye before they attain the age of one & twenty years then my will & meaning is that money shall rest and remayne in my grandsons hands- Robert Payne.
And as for all my goods& stock within doors & without & two all the money which I have due me upon any amount or security whatsoever I give & bequeath unto my loving wife Elizabeth Faulkner & my grandson Robt Paine whom I make executors of this my last will & testamt.
And my will & desire is that my loving friend John Prior of Marefield in the county of Sussex & Edward Soane of Eastgrinstead in the county of Sussex should be overseers to this my last will & be aiding and assistringe my executors.
In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seal to this my last will & testamt ye day & year above written Henry Faulkner, signe sealed published and delivered.
