The following is a transcription of the will provided to me and made by John F Howes - March 2013

In the name of God Amen, the sixth day of November Anno Dom 1631 and in the seaventh yeare of the reigne of our Soverieign Lord King Charles by the grace of god Kinge of England & ? I John Daniell of Cowden in the County of Kent ffounder (beinge sicke in bodie yet pfect in memorie the Lord be praysed for it) doe make and ordaine this my last will and testament in manner and forme following, that is to say ffirst I comend my soule and I let rest my body to be comitted to be buried in the churchyard of Cowden aforesaid;
Item I give and bequeath unto Ffrancis Booker of Horsham tenn pounds of lawfull money of England now in the hands of John Swaysland of Hartfield;
Item I give more unto the said Ffrancis twentie pounds of like lawfull money now in the hands of Edward Norman of Hartfield aforesaid;
Item more I give unto the said Ffrancis  tenn pounds of like lawfull money now in the hands of Robt Knight of Hartfield aforesaid & twenty pounds of like lawfull money now in the hands of Thomas Burges of Withiham in Sussex.
Item I give more unto the said Ffrancis twentie pounds of like lawfull money now in the hands of one William Nightingale and in the hands of Sydrach (?Cedric?) Eastland and his sons;
Item more I give unto him ffive pounds of like lawfull money now in the hands of William Pigott, Blacksmith.
Item I give unto Walter Daniell my sonne all my lands, tenements freehold by lease or whatever manner of tithe whatsoever;
Item I give more unto the said Walter my sonne fiftie pounds of lawfull money of England now in the hands of Robt Swaysland;
Item I give more unto the said Walter my sonne one hundred pounds of lawfull money of England now in the hands of Robert Swaysland;
Item (I give crossed out) more I give unto the said walter five pounds now in the hands of Henry Heads.

In the margin at this point is the following sentence: Item I give more unto the said Walter ffyve pounds of like lawfull money now in the hands of Edward & John Wickenden.
All the residue of my goods and chattels whatsoever I give and bequeath unto the said Walter Daniell my sonne whome I make the sole executor of this my last will and testament and Richard Knight to be overseer hereof.
In witness whereof I the said John Daniell to this my last will and testament have sett my hand and seale the daie and yeare ffirst above
written in the presence of John Danyell his mke, Robert Swaysland and Nicholas Wicking.
