The following is a transcription of the will provided to me and made by Jane Wicks: March 2013

In The Name of God Amen, the 16th daye of Novembre in the yere of our lord god 1548 and in the second yere of the rayne of our soverayne lord Edward the VI by the grace of god of Englond, France and Irelond, King, Defendor of the Faithe, and in this earth, of this churche of Englond and Irelond, supreme hedd. I Richerd Bristowe of Horlaye in the dioces of Wynchester, beinge sycke in bodye but perfyte of remembrance thanks be unto Christ doe orden and make this my last will and testament as in forme followithe. First I bequeath my soule to Allmightie God my Creator and to all the celestyall compenye of heavyn and my synfull bodye to be buryed within the parishe churchyard of Horlaye.


Item I bequeath to Henrye and Petre my sonnes to everye of them a cowe and one of them to be the others heyre.
Item I will that my wyff shall have all profets and rents of all my lands for the space of 12 years next ensueing my deth to see my children honestlie broughte upp.
Item I bequeath to William Bristowe my son one crofte of land called Barne Croft and a gardyn called Barne Hache Gardyn lying in the parishe of Charlwood with all the roughe grownd from the said grownd to the hye waye when he ys of th’age of 21 yeares to him and to his heires forever and yf the said Wylliam fayle before he be of th’age  aforesaid then I will the said lands to remayn to Peter my son and to his heires and yf the said Peter fayle without heires then I will the said lands to remayn to the next heire of me the said Richard Bristowe paying yerelye to the manor of Barneland for a quit rente ij d.
Item I will and bequeth to John my son all the residew of my lands lyeng and beyng within the parishe of Charlwoode to him and to his heires forever so that he paie to his brother Robert oute of my land called Barneland within tow yeres after he comys to it xl s and if the said Robert fayle then I will the said xl s to Clemens my daughter.
Item I will to Richard Bristowe my son after the decesse of his mother all my lands lyeng and being within the parishe of Lynfeld to him and to his heirs forever.
The residew of all my goods and chattels and cattell not bequest, my debts payed and my legaces performyd, I give and bequeth to Elizabeth my wiff whom I make and ordeyn my hole Executrix  of this my last will and testament and Robert Bristowe my brother Oversear and he have for his labore iij s iiij d.
