isaac Stripp & Jane Mitchell were not one of my direct ancestors but they are related to me as later indirect generations of a direct ancestor.

Key Dates:

Isaac Stripp (Strip) was baptised on 2nd February 1800 in East Grinstead, Sussex, the son of John Stripp (& Elizabeth) who was the son of John Stripp ( & Elizabeth) who was the son of William Stripp 1715 & Elizabeth Underhill. Isaac married Jane Maria Mitchell on 6th May 1826 in Lingfield, Surrey (shown as Strip). Isaac was buried on 17th February 1882 in Lingfield, Surrey ('aged 88' !!-shown as Strip)

Jane Maria Mitchell was baptised on 17th March 1805 in Lingfield, Surrey, the daughter of William Mitchell & Fanny Brister. Jane Maria was buried on 16th February 1884 in Lingfield, Surrey ('aged 79', & shown as Maria Jane Stripp)

Isaac & Jane Maria had nine children (Note: information about children 8-9 & children of Frederick is not confirmed).

  1. Frederick Stripp (Strip) was baptised on 7th January 1827 in Lingfield, Surrey. He possibly had three children (guesswork-see 1871 census -grandchildren living with Isaac)
    1. Caleb Frederick Stripp was born in about May 1849 possibly in Lingfield, Surrey (East Grinstead RD). He died in about November 1908 in Godstone RD, Surrey ('aged 48')
    2. Emily Christina Stripp was born in about 1855 possibly in Lingfield, Surrey (East Grinstead RD)????
    3. Wilfred George Amos Stripp was born in about May 1858 in East Grinstead RD, Sussex.
  2. Eliza Stripp (Strip) was baptised on 23rd March 1828 in Lingfield, Surrey. She married Edmund Cole in about November 1856 in East Grinstead RD, Sussex. Edmund & Eliza had two children (Edith & Edward Eli).
  3. Louisa Stripp (Strip) was baptised on 23rd August 1829 in Lingfield, Surrey (parents shown as Horace & Jane Maria). She married Charles Quckenden in about May 1855 in Godstone RD. Charles had been previously married and had a child (Frederick). Charles & Louisa had four children (George, Milley, Felix & Kate)
  4. Ellen Stripp (Strip) was baptised on 1st January 1832 in Lingfield, Surrey.
  5. Amos Stripp (Ship) was baptised on 26th June 1835 in Lingfield, Surrey
  6. Jane Maria Stripp (Strip) was baptised on 27th August 1837 in Lingfield, Surrey and she was buried there on 17th December 1837 (aged 4 months-shown as Stripp).
  7. Amelia Stripp (Strip) was baptised on 10th March 1839 in Lingfield, Surrey. She probably married James Gardiner Kerr on 29th January 1863 in Sandford, Victoria, Australia. James & Amelia had four children ( Thomas, Agnes Jane, Isaac Pearce, Amelia)
  8. Rhoda Stripp was baptised on 15th December 1844 in Lingfield, Surrey. She married James Atfield on 5th October 1878 in Lingfield, Surrey. James was the son of Shadrach Atfield of West Clandon, Surrey.
  9. Fanny Jane Stripp was baptised on 26th March 1847 in Lingfield, Surrey. She married Arthur Barnard on 28th February 1880 in Lingfield, Surrey. Arthur was baptised on 27th April 1851 in Lingfield, Surrey the son of James & Charlotte Barnard. Arthur & Fanny had one child (Albert).

  1. There were numerous differant spellings of "Stripp" in the parish registers eg (Strip, Stripp, Strype, Stripe, Streape, Strape, Streap). 'Streape' tended to be used up to about 1800, 'Strip' was then normally used to about 1840 and then 'Stripp' became the standard.
