John Grove & Jane Wren were one of my 10th generation ancestors.

Key Dates:

John Grove was baptised on 6th May 1624 in East Grinstead, Sussex.  He was the son of John Grove & Mary. He married Jane Wren on 23rd December 1662 in East Grinstead, Sussex. He was buried on 29th January 1678 in East Grinstead, Sussex.
Jane Wren birth details are unknown. She was possibly buried on 5th September 1680 in East Grinstead, Sussex (shown only as 'widow' and assumed to be Jane).

  1. Mary Grove was baptised on 31st July 1664 in East Grinstead, Sussex.
  2. John Grove was baptised on 18th October 1668 in East Grinstead, Sussex. He probably married Jane Grove on 14th February 1692 in Lingfield, Surrey (but a John Grove also married a Mary Tester in 1696). John & Jane had three children.
    1. William Grove was baptised on 13th October 1693 in East Grinstead, Sussex.
    2. John Grove was baptised on 17th January 1696 in East Grinstead, Sussex.
    3. Thomas Grove was born on 31st December 1697 and was baptised on 14th January 1698 in East Grinstead, Sussex.
  3. Richard Grove was baptised on 12th February 1671 in East Grinstead, Sussex. He married Ann Carpenter on 28th March 1703 in East Grinstead, Sussex. Details of Richard Grove & Ann Carpenter are shown separately as they are direct ancestors.
  4. William Grove was baptised on 5th January 1673 in East Grinstead, Sussex.
  5. Bridget Grove (Bridgett) was baptised on 10th January 1675 in East Grinstead, Sussex. She was buried there on 26th June 1685 and died ‘A young Maid’.
  6. Robert Grove was baptised on 23rd December 1676 in East Grinstead, Sussex.

Verification & Concerns Returns to 'Top of Page'

  1. This was the only John Grove born in East Grinstead for the period 1616-1646 (Age 16 at marriage to age 60 at birth of youngest child).
  2. There were no Grove’s born in West Hoathly and no marriages.
  3. The burial of Jane Wren arises from ‘a Widow’ being buried with no names supplied, but it is thought that John had died in 1678. There were no other burials until 1717.
