Stephen Colegate & Martha were one of my 7th generation ancestors.

Stephen Colegate was born about 1703 in Bessells Green, Sevenoaks, Kent. He married Matha in about 1723. Stephen died on 5th January 1776 and was buried on 11th January in Bessells Green, Sevenoaks.

Matha's birth details are not known. She was buried on 7th October 1776.

  2. Calverly Colegate was baptised 22nd June 1731 in Tatsfield, Surrey
  3. Martha Colegate was baptised 5th March 1737 in 'Brittains!!'

Stephen & Martha were members of the Baptist church at the Meeting House, in Bessells Green, near Sevenoaks, This was in the parish of Chevening. Some records derive from Chevening and some from Bessells Green. A lot of baptismal dates are of adults joining the new church. (set up in 1714)

Stephen was baptised on 6th August 1721 and Martha was baptised on 7th November 1725.

  1. Some records show Martha's surname as Calverly. This seems to me inconsistent with naming her daughter Calverly
