William Brown & Elizabeth were not one of my direct ancestors but they are related to me as later indirect generations of a direct ancestor.

William Brown was baptised on 30th June 1816 in Edenbridge, Kent. He was the son of Robert Brown & Ann Weller and Robert was the son of Jacob Brown (1754) & Sarah Wicking. He married firstly Elizabeth from Leigh. He married secondly Sarah Hubbard on 30th October 1852 at Providence Chapel, Croydon. (William shown as 36 years widower labourer of No 112 Old Town Croydon, father Robert Brown, Sarah Hubbard 30 years spinster of The Green, Lower Streatham, Surrey father William Hubbard carpenter and marriage witnessed by John Dodds & Mary Lowe (Sarah's married sister)).
At the time of the 1861 census William was a gardener at Beckenham Place.
Elizabeth birth details are unknown
Sarah Hubbard birth details are unknown but she was the daughter of William Hubbard carpenter
William & Elizabeth had two children (1-2). William & Sarah had four children (3-6):

- Robert Brown was baptised on 4th May 1845 in Edenbridge, Kent. He married Maria and in 1871 was a coachman in the Deptford/Greenwich area. They had five children but by 1881, Maria is widowed and living in Margate.Robert had probably died in about February 1876 in Godstone RD, Surrey ('aged 34' !!). In 1901 one of his son’s Robert and wife Rebekah , an upholsterer, is living next door to James & Eliza Brown (see 6 below).
- Mary Brown was baptised on 9th September 1849 in Edenbridge, Kent.
- Louisa Emma Brown was born in 1854. (She appears on 1871 & 1881 cenus living with her mother Sarah). She married Walter J P Phillips in 1884 in Bromley. Louisa was a 'Laundress' and Walter a 'Cabman' but later descibed as a 'carman-upholsterer' and lived at Wharton Road, Bromley. Louisa died in 1931 and Walter died in 1923. Louise & Walter had four children (Frances Sarah, Emily Louisa, Percival, Edith Jesse).
- Frances Sarah Phillips was born in 1885 and married Alf Clarke. They had six children and were the Grandparents of Martin Clarke whose wife Julia provided provided this information. Martin Clarke is one of my 'Fifth Cousins'.
- Emily Louisa Philips was born in 1886. She married Alf Chandler and had two childre. She died in 1943.
- Percival Philips was born in 1888. Percival died in a railway accident in 1915 and his widow Fanny Young took the 3 children to Canada but died en route and the children were adopted.
- Edith Jesse Philips was born in 1890. She never married and died in a nursing home in Tenterden, Kent.
- Jessie Brown was born on 18th March 1856 in Beckenham, Kent. (Birth certificate shows daughter of William Brown and Sarah Brown formerly Hubbard. William is described as a general Labourer)
- William Henry Brown was born on 1860 probably in Beckenham, Kent. He married Sarah and in 1891 he lived in Park End, Bromley, Kent and in 1901 he was a Postmaster and lived in Widmore Rd, Bromley, Kent. William & Susan had two children (Ernest & Sydney)
- James Brown was born in 1862 probably in Beckenham, Kent. He married Eliza and lived in Park End, Bromley, Kent. He was an upholsterer and James and Eliza had three children (Howard, Evelyn & Muriel)
