Peter Brown Family History

Philip & Mary had five known children (but possibly more due to gap in register at 1641-5).

1. John Browne was baptised on 6^th March 1636 in West Hoathly, Sussex.
2. William Browne was baptised on 18^th April 1637 in West Hoathly, Sussex. He possibly married Elizabeth Dawson on 5^th November 1663 in Crowhurst, Surrey (William shown as a servant of Edward Plan, and Elizabeth a servant of Thomas Underhill). William & Elizabeth had six children.
   1. Ann Browne was baptised on 16^th October 1664 in Crowhurst, Surrey.
   2. Jane Browne was baptised on 16^th November 1666 in Crowhurst, Surrey.
   3. Philip Browne was baptised on 3^rd October 1668 in Crowhurst, Surrey and he was buried there on 4^th October 1668 ('son of William & Elizabeth').
   4. Philip Browne was baptised on 5^th April 1670 in Crowhurst, Surrey. He probably married Elizabeth Knolden on 26^th April 1692 in Godstone, Surrey. It is assumed he had a son
      1. Philip Browne was born about 1700 (derived as no birth record exists). He married Mary Fielder on 10^th December 1730 in Edenbridge, Kent. Mary was buried on 25^th February 1764 in Tandridge, Surrey and Philip was buried there on 26^th June 1769. Philip & Mary had three children.
         1. David Browne was baptised on 4^th October 1731 in Tandridge, Surrey. He married Sarah Benge on 1^st April 1752 in Crowhurst, Surrey.. David & Sarah had one known child.
            1. Mary Browne was baptised on 16^th June 1754 in Tandridge, Surrey.
         2. John Browne was baptised on 28^th July 1733 in Tandridge, Surrey and he was buried there on 2^nd December 1733 (son of Philip & Mary).
         3. Hannah Browne was baptised on 25^th November 1737 in Tandridge, Surrey.
   5. William Browne was baptised on 5^th September 1672 in Crowhurst, Surrey.
   6. John Browne was baptised on 16^th June 1676 in Crowhurst, Surrey. He possibly had a son
      1. John Browne born around 1700 (derived as no birth record exists). He married firstly Anne Tapsell on 26^th October 1730 in Lingfield, Sussex. John & Anne had one child (i) and Anne was buried on 7^th October 1732 in East Grinstead, Sussex ('wife of John'). John possibly secondly married Elizabeth and they had six children (ii-vii).
         1. John Brown was baptised on 7^th October 1732 in East Grinstead, Sussex and he was buried there on 17^th December 1732 (son of John & Anne).
         2. John Brown was baptised on 25^th April 1735 in East Grinstead, Sussex. John maybe possibly married Mary Brown on 28^th October 1766 in East Grinstead, Sussex - see Jacob Brown 1712
         3. Philip Brown was baptised on 23^rd May 1736 in Lingfield, Surrey. He was possibly buried on 14^th October 1802 in Horne, Surrey.
         4. Amy Brown (Amey) was baptised on 5^th November 1738 in East Grinstead, Sussex.
         5. William Brown was baptised on 26^th December 1744 in East Grinstead, Sussex.
         6. James Brown was baptised on 6^th January 1748 in East Grinstead, Sussex. He maybe possibly married Ann Horsey in 1771 in Godstone, Surrey- see Jacob Brown 1712
         7. Elizabeth Brown was baptised on 21^st April 1751 in East Grinstead, Sussex.
3. Elizabeth Browne was baptised on 3^rd February 1639 in West Hoathly, Sussex.
4. Mary Browne was baptised on 15^th January 1641 in West Hoathly, Sussex.
5. Edward Browne was baptised on 15^th January 1641 in West Hoathly, Sussex. He possibly married Mary Bellingbourne on 3^rd September 1667 in West Hoathly, Sussex. Edward was probably buried on 9^th January 1716 in West Hoathly, Sussex (' an old man'). Edward & Mary had thirteen children.
   1. Mary Browne was baptised on 12^th September 1668 in West Hoathly, Sussex.
   2. Margaret Browne was baptised on 23^rd April 1671 in West Hoathly, Sussex.
   3. Anne Browne was baptised on 26^th April 1674 in West Hoathly, Sussex.
   4. Stephen Browne was baptised on 4^th March 1677 in West Hoathly, Sussex and he was possibly buried there on 5^th April 1677.
   5. Fortune Browne was baptised on 27^th November 1678 in West Hoathly, Sussex.
   6. John Browne was baptised on 23^rd March 1681 in West Hoathly, Sussex.
   7. Elizabeth Browne was baptised on 24^th June 1682 in West Hoathly, Sussex.
   8. Edward Browne was baptised on 22^nd March 1684 in West Hoathly, Sussex.
   9. Anne Browne was baptised on 5^th May 1686 in West Hoathly, Sussex.
   10. Jane Browne was baptised on 9^th March 1688 in West Hoathly, Sussex.
   11. Peter Browne was baptised on 21st January 1689 in Ditchling, Sussex. (Note: due to the place & date, this may be a son of another Edward & Mary, but not aware of any- However CHECK HORSHAM). He married Anne Wood on 24^th February 1715 in Ditchling, Sussex. Ann was the daughter of Henry Wood of Ditchling (see Documents - Archive 1). Peter probably paid a 'Window Tax' of 2s in Lindfield in 1747 (see Places- Window Tax). Peter left a 'Will' dated 22^nd November 1771 and died in 1774. Peter & Ann had at least five children.
       1. Peter Brown was born in about 1716, probably in Ditchling, Sussex. He was mentioned in his brother Henry's 'Will' of 1761 and shown to be living in Lindfield. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1771. He possibly married Sarah Lasmere on 25^th July 1749 in Lindfield, Sussex.(or it may be a second marriage of his father)
       2. Nathanial Brown was baptised on 25^th January 1716 in Ditchling, Sussex. He was mentioned in his brother Henry's 'Will' of 1761 and shown to be living in Alfriston. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1771.
       3. James Brown was born and baptised on 2^nd March 1717 in Ditchling, Sussex. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1771.
       4. Elizabeth Brown was born in about 1718, probably in Ditchling, Sussex. She was mentioned in her father's 'Will' of 1771.
       5. Henry Brown was born in about 1720, probably in Ditchling, Sussex. He married Elizabeth Ellyott on 13^th June 1751 in Withyham, Sussex. Henry left a 'Will' dated 4^th November 1761 and was buried on 21^st February 1762 in Withyham, Sussex (a shopkeeper). Elizabeth was buried on 5^th June 1760 in Withyham, Sussex ('wife of Henry'). Henry & Elizabeth had at least three children which were mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1771.
          1. Peter Brown was born in about 1752, probably in Withyham, Sussex. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1761 as under 21.
          2. Elizabeth Brown was born in about 1754, probably in Withyham, Sussex. She was mentioned in her father's 'Will' of 1761 as under 21.
          3. Stephen Brown was born in about 1756, probably in Withyham, Sussex. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1761 as under 21
   12. Thomas Browne was baptised on 22^nd January 1692 in West Hoathly, Sussex.
   13. Henry Browne was baptised on 24^th October 1694 in West Hoathly, Sussex. He married Jane Browne on 4^th June 1730 in West Hoathly, Sussex. Jane was baptised in 1694 in West Hoathly, Sussex. (see Joseph Browne 1659). Jane was buried on 14^th May 1774 in West Hoathly, Sussex ('wife of Henry aged 79'). Henry left a 'Will' proved in 1782 was buried in West Hoathly, Sussex on 9^th February 1782 ('aged 87'). Henry & Jane had three children.
       1. William Browne was baptised on 1^st October 1731 in West Hoathly, Sussex and he was buried there on 25^th October 1754 (' aged 23').
       2. Henry Browne was baptised on 8^th July 1734 in West Hoathly, Sussex. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1782. He possibly married Elizabeth and had three children.
          1. Elizabeth Browne was baptised on 24^th August 1755 in Worth, Sussex.
          2. Fortune Browne was baptised on 24^th August 1755 in Worth, Sussex.
          3. John Browne was baptised on 23^rd August 1763 in Lindfield, Sussex.
       3. John Browne was baptised on 4^th April 1736 in West Hoathly, Sussex and he was buried there on 25^th July 1762 ( 'aged 26, son of Henry').
