Peter Browne & Eleanor Wooden were not one of my direct ancestors and they may not be related to me as later indirect generations of a direct ancestor.They are part of what I term the West Mid-Sussex Browne's based around Charlwood, Horley, Horsham & Ifield.

Peter Browne (Peeter) was maybe possibly baptised on 26th January 1594 in Dorking, Surrey the son of William Browne. William was part of the the Betchworth Browne's and was possibly a descendant of Thomas Browne 1413 & Eleanor Fitzalan. (but see concerns ref item 2 on that page vis links to Mayflower)
Peter married Eleanor Wooden (Elenor) on 29th January 1622 in Horsham, Sussex (shown as Peeter). He married secondly Elizabeth. Elizabeth was buried on 2nd May 1654 in Horsham, Sussex ('wife of Peter senior'). Peter was buried on 24th March 1659 in Horsham, Sussex (' Householder, poor, senior')
Peter may also be related to William Brown 1534 & Magdalene Elsick but the link has not yet been established

Eleanor Wooden birth details are unknown. Eleanor was buried on 9th January 1641 in Horsham, Sussex (' Ellonor, wife of Peter')

    2. John Brown was born on 27th December 1649 and was baptised on 20th January 1650 in Horsham, Sussex. John was buried there on 28th July 1650 (' a child').
    3. John Brown was baptised on 15th April 1652 in Horsham, Sussex. He possibly married firstly Mary Worley on 10th April 1670 in Horsham, Sussex. John & Mary had two children. He possibly married secondly Mary Daniell on 24th June 1675 in Horsham, Sussex. He possibly married thirdly Mary Mills on 21st November 1675 in Horsham, Sussex. John was possibly buried on 14th April 1684 in Horsham, Sussex ('householder') and Mary was possibly buried there on 28th September 1685 ('widow'). John & Mary had four children.
      1. Elizabeth Brown was baptised on 27th October 1671 in Horsham, Sussex (daughter of John) and she was buried there on 30th October 1671.
      2. Mary Brown was baptised on 27th October 1671 in Horsham, Sussex (daughter of John) and she was buried there on 5th November 1671.
      3. John Brown was born on 24th October and was baptised on 30th November 1676 in Horsham, Sussex. He was buried there on 16th February 1677 ('child, son of John').
      4. Mary Brown was born on 6th April and was baptised on 13th June 1678 in Horsham, Sussex.

  1. In general the family name BROWNE was used up to about 1700 and then BROWN became standard.
  2. Athough the details of the individual entries are correct, and the children are born to the named parents, a rigorous analysis has not yet been undertaken to ensure that the correct family heads are with the appropriate children (ie if there was a choice of father's called 'William' the wrong one may have been used).Therefore this structure should only be viewed as indicative.
