Jacob Brown (1754) & Sarah Wicking

Border
General History

Jacob Brown  & Sarah Wicking were one of my 6th generation ancestors.

Key Dates:

Jacob Brown was baptised on 3rd March 1754 in East Grinstead, Sussex. He was the son of Jacob Brown & Anne Payne. He married Sarah Wicking on 9th May 1778 in Lingfield, Surrey. He moved to Edenbridge, Kent in about 1814. Jacob was buried on 21st May 1835 in Edenbridge, Kent ('aged 81')

Sarah Wicking was baptised on 7th January 1757 in East Grinstead, Sussex. She was the daughter of William Wicking & Phoebe Farnes. She was buried in Edenbridge, Kent on 20th January 1837 ('aged 81').(source 18).

NOTE: Jacob Brown is a key ancestor as quite a large percentage of Brown's in South East Surrey, mid Sussex & South West Kent are probably descended from him. If anyone reading this page has any further information on the family group details given below, or can correct any errors, then please let me know.

Verification & Concerns Returns to 'Top of Page'

  1. This Jacob Brown is the only one identified as being born between the years 1728-1761. (age 16 at marriage to age 60 at birth of youngest child). Sources 1-5. This person is very likely to be correct. It appears that the family were initially based in Lingfield, then moved to Edenbridge, Kent (or Hever) and then moved to Limpsfield. All three parishes are adjacent to each other so distances for moves may be very small. Laterly the familes moved to Oxted.
