Edward Browne was not one of my direct ancestors but he is related to me as later indirect generations of a direct ancestor.

Key Dates:

Edward Browne was possibly born around 1556 probably in West Hoathly, Sussex. He was possibly the son of Andrew Brown (& Agnes) who was the son of John Browne & Joan. , but there issues with this as there may be a related Browne family living in West Hoathly- See John Brown 1490 : verification item 2.
He was named in his fathers ‘Will’ of 1595.  Edward left a 'Will' dated 8th February 1602 and he died in 1602 prior to June. He had at least three children.

Edward Thomas Stephen
  1. Edward Browne was possibly born around 1580, probably in West Hoathly Sussex, and probably buried on 17th May 1636 in Lindfield, Sussex. He was named in his fathers ‘Will’ of 1601. He married firstly Elizabeth Aves on 2nd June 1603 in Lindfield, Sussex. Elizabeth was buried on 5th March 1604 ('wife of Edward'). Edward & Elizabeth had one child (A): Edward married secondly Ann Fuller on 4th February 1605 in Lindfield, Sussex. Edward and Ann had four known children (B-E): (source 3)
    1. Nynian Browne was baptised 4th March 1604 in Lindfield, Sussex.
    2. Ann Browne was baptised 9th February 1606 in Lindfield, Sussex and she was buried there on 1st August 1609.('Annis daughter of Edward')
    3. Thomas Browne was baptised 30th April 1609 in Lindfield, Sussex. He probably married Ann Gleed on 7th September 1637 in Lindfield, Sussex. Thomas was buried on 2nd February 1694 in Lindfield, Sussex. Thomas & Ann had five children.
      1. Thomas Browne was baptised on 1st June 1638 in Lindfield, Sussex and he was buried there on 3rd June 1638 ('son of Thomas').
      2. Ann Browne was baptised on 15th September 1639 in Lindfield, Sussex and she was buried there on 6th March 1640 (' daughter of Thomas').
      3. Edward Browne was baptised on 7th February 1641 in Lindfield, Sussex and he was buried there on 20th June 1641 ('son of Thomas').
      4. Joseph Browne was baptised on 7th August 1642 in Lindfield, Sussex
      5. Elizabeth Browne was baptised on 11th May 1648 in Lindfield, Sussex
    4. John Browne was baptised 22nd December 1611 in Lindfield, Sussex. He was buried there on 5th June 1625 ('son of Edward').
    5. Margerie Browne was baptised 29th October 1615 in Lindfield, Sussex. She probably married John Ellis on 17th June 1649 in Newick, Sussex (both shown as of Horsted Keynes).
  2. Thomas Browne was possibly born around 1582, probably in West Hoathly Sussex, and he was named in his fathers ‘Will’ of 1601.
  3. Stephen Browne was possibly born around 1584, probably in West Hoathly Sussex, and he was named in his fathers ‘Will’ of 1601.

They are based on available facts and generally assume 1st child  is born a minimum 25 years after fathers birth and subsequent children are born at 2 yearly intervals.   2. In general the family name BROWNE was used up to about 1700 and then BROWN became standard

Wills
  1. Edward Browne left a ‘Will’ that was dated 8th February 1602 and was proved on 15th June 1602  (LEWES A12.P47). It mentions his sons Edward, Thomas & Stephen and was witnessed by Enoch Browne & Thomas Browne.The link is to a poor difficult to read copy of the will.
