Verification & Concerns Returns to 'Top of Page'

  1. There are a variety of names used instead of Wicking. These are all felt to be spelling variations. The names identified are: Wicken, Wickinge, Wickens, Wickyng, Wekyhge, Weekyng, Weckynge, Weeknge, Weekinge, Weekyn, Weking, Wyking, Wycking, Wykinge. There are Wickenden's in East Grinstead & Cowden, but these have been excluded as considered another name.
  2. Only Susan Wicking was shown as the daughter of Drew and Mary Wicking. All other children just show the fathers name in the parish records. However for the fisrt child ( Mary) no parents were shown, but assigned due to birth dates and marriage date.
  3. Drew's father is likely to be Thomas as Drew's 2nd son was named after him, and when he died a later son was called Thomas.
  4. There was another Mary Butcher baptised in Rotherfield on 27th November 1569, daughter of William. There is inconsistency whether his name was Butcher or Boucher. Both names appear in the register for other births,. A William Boucher (Butcher) married Margaret Brett (Britt) on 27th April 1567 in Rotherfield..
