George Underhill were not one of my direct ancestors but they are related to me as later indirect generations of a direct ancestor.

Key Dates:

George Underhill was born in about 1525. He married Joan. Joan was buried on 4th March 1565 in Ditchling, Sussex ('wife of George'). George was buried on 19th June 1584 in Ditchling, Sussex ('George the elder'). His estate was 'Administered' on 7th July 1584 (ref Lewes B1.P130)

  1. George Underhill was born in about 1550. He possibly married secondly Eleanor Gayston on 1st October 1581 in Ditchling, Sussex. He was buried on 28th February 1586 in Ditchling, Sussex. His estate was 'Administered' on 19th March 1586 (ref Lewes B1.P152)
    1. Richard Underhill was buried on 1st May 1575 in Ditchling, Sussex (son of George). He was maybe possibly buried on 18th January 1605 in Ditchling, Sussex (see below).
    2. Margaret Underhill (Margrett Undrell) was baptised on 20th May 1575 in Ditchling, Sussex (dau of George).
    3. Eleanor Underhill (Undrell) was baptised on 20th May 1575 in Ditchling, Sussex (dau of George).
    4. Thomas Underhill (Undrell) was baptised on 9th October 1578 in Ditchling, Sussex (son of George). He married Margaret Wood on 25th July 1601 in Ditchling, Sussex. He left a 'Will' that was dated 15th June 1620 and he was buried on 17th June 1620 in Ditchling, Sussex . Margaret was mentioned in his husband's 'Will' of 1620. Thomas & Margaret had four children.
      1. John Underhill was baptised on 13th May 1602 in Ditchling, Sussex (son of Thomas) and he was buried there on 10th March 1603 ('son of Thomas')
      2. Richard Underhill was baptised on 4th March 1604 in Ditchling, Sussex (son of Thomas- shown as Rye). He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1620. He married Eleanor Skilton on 8th May 1626 in Ditchling, Sussex (license isseued at Lewes). Eleanor was buried on 31st May 1664 in Ditchling, Sussex ('wife of Richard'). Richard & Eleanor had seven children.
        1. Joan Underhill was baptised on 12th August 1627 in Ditchling, Sussex (dau of Richard).
        2. Eleanor Underhill was born in about 1630 and was buried on 19th June 1631 in Ditchling, Sussex ('dau of Richard')
        3. Abraham Underhill was baptised on 21st June 1635 in Ditchling, Sussex (son of Richard). He probably married Alice Teage on 3rd April 1665 in Lindfield, Sussex.
        4. Mary Underhill was baptised on 27th January 1639 in Ditchling, Sussex (dau of Richard) and she was buried there on 23rd April 1642 ('dau of Richard').
        5. Thomas Underhill was baptised on 21st November 1641 in Ditchling, Sussex (son of Richard).
        6. Margaret Underhill was baptised on 13th November 1642 in Ditchling, Sussex (dau of Richard).
        7. Eleanor Underhill was baptised on 30th August 1646 in Ditchling, Sussex (dau of Richard).
      3. George Underhill was born in about 1607. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1620. He had a child
        1. Jane Underhill was baptised on 22nd July 1632 in Ditchling, Sussex (dau of George).
      4. Joan Underhill was baptised on 6th March 1610 in Ditchling, Sussex (dau of Thomas). She was mentioned in her father's 'Will' of 1620.
    5. Eleanor Underhill was baptised on 24th February 1584 in Ditchling, Sussex (dau of George).
  2. Elizabeth Underhill was buried on 27th March 1559 in Ditchling, Sussex ('dau of George').
  3. Margaret Underhill (Margrett Undrell) was baptised on 27th April 1563 in Ditchling, Sussex (dau of George).

  1. John Underhill was born in about 1535
    1. John Underhill was buried on 10th March 1559 in Ditchling, Sussex ('son of John').
    2. Margarie Underhill (Undrell) was baptised on 13th February 1561 in Ditchling, Sussex (dau of John). She was mentioned in her brother John's 'Will' of 1593.
    3. John Underhill was born in about 1564. He left a 'Will' dated 13th November 1593 and was buried on 24th November 1593 in Ditchling, Sussex ('John Junior').
    4. Richard Underhill was born in about 1567. He was maybe possibly buried on 2nd October 1594 in Ditchling, Sussex (see ref 1 A above).
    5. Joan Underhill (Undrell) was baptised on 24th April 1569 in Ditchling, Sussex (dau of John). She was mentioned in her brother John's 'Will' of 1593.
    6. Elizabeth Underhill (Undrell) was born in about 1572 possibly in Ditchling, Sussex . She was mentioned in her brother John's 'Will' of 1593.

  1. John Underhill (Family ref top) left a 'Will' that was dated 13th November 1593 and was proved on 22nd December 1593 (ref Lewes A9.P208). The link is to Copy of the 'Will'. The 'Will' mentions his brother ? ; his sisters Margorie, Joanne, Elizabeth.
  2. Thomas Underhill (Family ref top) left a 'Will' that was dated 15th June 1620 and was proved on 30th June 1620 (ref Lewes A17.P113). The link is to Copy of the 'Will'. The 'Will' mentions his wife Margaret ; his sons: Richard, George ; his daughter Joane . Overseers were Brother (in-laws?) Nicholas Arnold, John ?
