John Payne of Liod (c1540)

Border
General History

John Payne was not one of my direct ancestors but may be related to me as later indirect generations of a direct ancestor.

Key Dates:

John Payne was probably born in about 1540 in possibly Ardingly, Sussex (derived as no birth record found). He was probably the son of John Payne & Joan of Lodge house who was the son of Edward Payne, the son of Richard Payne. He later lived at Liod (or Liode). (Note: John of Liod may not be a son of John of Lodge, but properties Lodge & Liod are certainly linked). He married firstly Amy in about 1555. Amy was buried on 12th December 1562 in Ardingly, Sussex ('wife of John of Liode'). He married secondly. John was probably buried on 14th June 1573 in Ardingly, Sussex ('John Paine, of Liode').
Lywood (Liod) is in the south part of Ardingly, north of Lindfield.
