William Feldwick (1672) & Anne

Border
General History

William Feldwick & Anne were not one of my direct ancestors but they are related to me as later indirect generations of a direct ancestor..

Key Dates:

William Feldwick was baptised on 15th September 1672 in West Hoathly, Sussex. He was the son of Nicholas Feldwick who was the son of John Feldwick. He possibly married firstly Anne Ford on 6th May 1697 in Worth, Sussex (shown as Velvick). Anne was possibly buried on 9th August 1700 in West Hoathly, Sussex ('wife of William'). William married secondly Anne in about 1710. (Note A Robert Velfick married an Anne Lee in Worth on 11/02/1711- this may be a error and should read William as the only Robert is still married). Anne was buried on 27th February 1723 in West Hoathly, Sussex ('wife of William'). William maybe possibly married thirdly Sarah Ware on 28th June 1731 in West Hoathly, Sussex ('Sarah a widow'). Sarah was buried on 10th May 1749 in West Hoathly, Sussex ('wife of William') and William was probably buried there on 15th March 1750. (Note: Further investigation by Chris Allen shows that William was shown as a widower at this marriage, but this marriage (and later deaths) may also relate to another William (eg see William born 1679) - a Sarah Tester , baptised 1699, had married John Ware at Balcombe on 9th August 1726. In addition Sarah would only be aged 32 when she remarried William aged 59).

He maybe possibly married Ann Knight on 10th September 1762 in St Pancras church, Euston Road, Camden, Middlesex (Source: London Metropolitan Archives- Ref: P90/PAN1 item 050 -banns published Aug 22nd & 29th: Sept 5th 1762), but could be another Robert.
  4. Nicholas Feldwick was baptised on 8th April 1720 in West Hoathly, Sussex. He married Mary Potter on 8th October 1743 in Fleet Prison, London (both shown as of Burstow, Surrey). (see Items of Interest -Fleet Prison for explanation). Mary died on 18th January and was buried on 23rd January 1801 in Merstham, Surrey ('aged 82- wife of yeoman). Nicholas left a 'Will' dated 24th April 1806. He died on 28th September and was buried on 30th September 1810 in Merstham, Surrey ('aged 90 - yeoman). Nicholas & Mary had ten children.

    5. William Feldwick (Fieldwick) was baptised on 12th January 1752 in Horne, Surrey. He married Frances Dodd (Fanny) on 12th March 1776 in St Mary's church, Marylebone, London. William was mentioned in his father Nicholas Feldwick's 'Will' of 1806. Fanny/Frances died on 10th November 1845 at Bexley, Kent (of an "affection of the heart") & William died in 1843 in the Dartford, Kent registration district. The 'Will' also shows a strong connection with Mersham and a tie with the Roffey family (see Jane below) thus verifying this family link. 7. Jane Feldwick (Fieldwick) was baptised on 6th February 1756 in Horne, Surrey. Verification & Concerns Returns to 'Top of Page'

  1. There were numerous differant spellings of "Feldwick" in the parish registers eg Feldwick, Fieldwick, Feldewick, Feldweeke, Feldwicke, Velvick, Vilfick, Velveck.
  2. For the period 1660-1681 (Age 16 at marriage to age 60 at birth of youngest child) there were two William Feldwick's born in West Hoathly. and there was one William Feldwick born in the adjacent parish of Balcombe. There were none born in the surrounding parishes. Even if the first marriage was ignored there were no other Williams born prior to 1695.
    1. 15/09/1672 in West Hoathly, Sussex, the son of Nicholas & Anne. The fourth child, Nicholas, ties him in with his father making him very likely the correct person.
    2. 21/07/1671 in West Hoathly, Sussex, the son of John & Anne. His aunt's 'Will' identifies him and he probably died in 1696
    3. 09/06/1679 in Balcombe, Sussex, the son of William & Adrie.
