Thomas Feldwick (1597) & Elizabeth Wicking

Thomas Feldwick & Elizabeth Wicking were not one of my direct ancestors but they are related to me as later indirect generations of a direct ancestor.

Key Dates:

Thomas Feldwick (Velvick) was baptised on 23rd January 1597 in East Grinstead, Sussex (no parents shown). He was maybe possibly the son of Thomas Feldwick, the son of John Feldwick & Thomasine Infield. He married Elizabeth Wicking (Wickens) on 25th November 1622 in East Grinstead, Sussex. Thomas provided suriety for the marriage of Susan Wicking (Elizabeth's sister) to Richard Payne in 1631(see Drew Wicking 1569 ref 8). Thomas was a 'Miller' and lived at Figgs Hatch in East Grinstead. Thomas left a 'Will' dated 28th April 1664 and was buried on 12th of May 1664 (month not shown, but derived) in East Grinstead, Sussex ('Veldwicke-senex'). Thomas & Elizabeth had nine children.

Elizabeth Wicking was born in about 1601 in East Grinstead, Sussex (no birth record found). She was the daughter of Drew Wicking & Mary Butcher. She was mentioned in her father Drew Wicking's 'Will' of 1653 as daughter, wife of Thomas Velvicke. Elizabeth was mentioned in her husband's 'Will' of 1664. Elizabeth left a 'Will' dated 19th November 1666 and she was buried on 22nd February 1667 in East Grinstead, Sussex ('Velvicke, Vid').

  1. Alice Feldwick was baptised on 20th July 1623 in East Grinstead, Sussex. She married John Langridge (Langridg) on 3rd July 1642 in East Grinstead, Sussex. She was mentioned in her father's 'Will' of 1664 as Alice my daughter the nowe wife of John Langridge, and in her mother's 'Will' of 1666 as Alice my daughter the nowe wife of John Langridge. Alice Langridge left a 'Will' dated 23rd May 1690, proved in 1692 (ref. Lewes A41.P9) and she was buried on 7th May 1692 in East Grinstead, Sussex (shown as a widow of East Grinstead). Alice & John had three children and are are direct ancestors of Mandy Willard (click to access the relevant page on her site or go to 'Links' to access the site home page)
  2. Mary Feldwick was baptised on 9th July 1626 in East Grinstead, Sussex. She married John Coulstock on 8th January 1650 in East Grinstead, Sussex (shown as Feldewick). She was mentioned in her father's 'Will' of 1664 as Mary my daughter the nowe wife of John Coulstocke, and in her mother's 'Will' of 1666 as Mary my daughter the nowe wife of John Coulstock. John Coulstock was mentioned in her sister in law Alice Langridge's 'Will' of 1690 as sole executor.
  3. Anne Feldwick (An) was baptised on 30th August 1629 in East Grinstead, Sussex. Anne was mentioned in her father's 'Will' of 1664, in her mother's 'Will' of 1666(as executor) and also in her sister Alice Langridge's 'Will' of 1690 as 'sister Ann Peirce'.
  4. Elizabeth Feldwick (Feldwicke) was baptised on 2nd April 1632 in East Grinstead, Sussex. She married Edward Kipping on 8th June 1652 in East Grinstead, Sussex. Elizabeth was possibly buried on 2nd September 1658 in East Grinstead, Sussex (wife of Edward Kippin). Edward was mentioned in Elizabeth Feldwick's 'Will' of 1666 as Edward Keeping - son in law. Elizabeth & Edward had probably two children.
    1. Robert Kipping was baptised on 11th June 1654 in East Grinstead, Sussex (son of Edward & Elizabeth Kipping).
    2. Elizabeth Kipping was baptised on 15th August 1658 in East Grinstead, Sussex (son of Edward & Elizabeth Kipping). Elizabeth was mentioned in her grandmother Elizabeth Feldwick's 'Will' of 1666 (as Elizabeth Keeping - under 21) and in her aunt Alice Langridge's 'Will' of 1690 (as Elizabeth Kippin).
  5. Susan Feldwick was baptised on 19th October 1634 in East Grinstead, Sussex. She was mentioned in her father's 'Will' of 1664 and in her mother's 'Will' of 1666 (as executor).
  6. Thomas Feldwick (Feldwicke) was baptised on 12th March 1637 in East Grinstead, Sussex. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1664 and in his mother's 'Will' of 1666. Thomas possibly married Joan. Joan was buried on 5th March 1662 in East Grinstead , Sussex (Joan wife of Thomas Fildwick). Thomas had a child.
    1. William Feldwick (Felfeck) was baptised on 15th April 1661 in Buxted, Sussex (son of Thomas). He was mentioned in his grandmother Elizabeth Feldwick's 'Will' of 1666.
  7. Joan Feldwick (Joane Feldwicke) was baptised on 12th March 1637 in East Grinstead, Sussex. She was mentioned in her father's 'Will' of 1664 as Joan my daughter the nowe wife of Edward Taylor, and in her mother's 'Will' of 1666 as Joan my daughter the nowe wife of Edward Taylor.
  8. William Feldwick (Velfick) was baptised on 15th March 1640 in East Grinstead, Sussex. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1664 and in his mother's 'Will' of 1666. He maybe possibly married Mary Young on 25th October 1677 in East Chiltington, Sussex
  9. Henry Feldwick (Velveck) was baptised on 18th August 1644 in East Grinstead, Sussex. He was mentioned in his mother's 'Will' of 1666 and in his sister Alice Langridge's 'Will' of 1690 as brother. Henry married Ann. Henry & Ann had one child. Henry was possibly was buried on 23rd September 1680 In All Saints Church, Lewes (National Archives from Chris Allen shows 'September ye 23rd 1680 Then was buried Henry Fieldwick of this Parifh he lyeth behind ye graves of ye Widow Horton & Mary Groome, ye head of his grave to ye feet of their graves).
    1. Mary Feldwick (Feldwicke) was baptised on 3rd July 1670 in East Grinstead, Sussex. She was mentioned in her Aunt Alice's 'Will' of 1690 (as Mary my brother Henry Felwick daughter the wife of [blank] £3)

  1. There were numerous differant spellings of "Feldwick" in the parish registers eg Feldwick, Fieldwick, Feldewick, Feldweeke, Feldwicke, Velvick, Vilfick, Velveck.

  1. Thomas Feldwick (family ref top) left a 'Will' dated 28th April 1664 that was proved on 26th May 1664 (Ref Lewes A30.P110). The link is to a transcript of the 'Will'. In the 'Will' he mentions his wife Elizabeth (executor); his daughters Alice (wife of John Langridge), Mary (wife of John Coulstocke), Joan (wife of Edward Taylor), Anne, Susan; his sons Thomas, William (second son); Witnesses were Robert Payne, Edward Lucas. Properties mentioned were Figgs Hatch in East Grinstead.
  2. Elizabeth Feldwick (family ref top) left a 'Will' dated 19th November 1666 that was proved on 20th April 1667 (Ref Lewes A30.P326). The link is to a transcript of the 'Will'. In the 'Will' she mentions her husband Thomas (deceased); her daughters Alice (wife of John Langridge), Joan (wife of Edward Taylor), Mary (wife of John Coulstock), Anne (executor), Susan (executor); her sons Thomas, William, Henry; her son in law Edward Keeping; her grandchildren Elizabeth Keeping (daughter of Edward- under 21), William Feldwick (son of Thomas- under 21); Witnesses were John Worger, Thomas Earnley

  3. Alice Langridge (nee Feldwick) (family ref 1) left a 'Will' dated 23rd May 1690, proved in 1692 (ref. Lewes A41.P9).
