John Faulconer were not one of my direct ancestors but they are possibly related to me as later generations of a direct ancestor.

Key Dates:

John Faulconer was baptised on 21st March 1591 in Balcombe.  He was known as John the younger of Casty and was the son of John Faulconer who was the son of Edward Faulconer. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1621.  He was buried on 4th March 1645 in Balcombe.

  1. Susanna Faulconer was baptised on 9th August 1618 in Balcombe, Sussex. She was mentioned in her grandfather John Faulconer's 'Will' of 1621.
  2. John Faulconer was baptised on 26th June 1620 in Balcombe, Sussex. He was mentioned in his grandfather John Faulconer's 'Will' of 1621. John married Christiana Nash (widow of Levy Nash) by license at Lewes on 2nd July 1640. John was buried on 29th November 1675 in Balcombe, Sussex and Christina was buried there on 11th January 1677. John & Christina had three children.
    1. John Faulconer was baptised on 4th February 1641 in Balcombe, Sussex. Source 1 has additional information.
    2. Henry Faulconer was baptised on 30th June 1644 in Balcombe, Sussex. Source 1 has additional information.
    3. Christina Faulconer was baptised on 23rd June 1650 in Balcombe, Sussex.
  3. Henry Faulconer was baptised on 2nd May 1622 in Balcombe, Sussex and he was buried there on 10th March 1624 ('son of John Falkner of Casty').
  4. Thomas Faulconer was baptised on 18th May 1623 in Balcombe, Sussex and he was buried there on 3rd July 1624 ('son of John Falkner of Casty').
  5. William Faulconer  was baptised on 24th November 1624 in Balcombe, Sussex and he was buried there on 24th March 1627 ('son of John Falkner of Casty').
  6. Edward Faulconer was baptised on 26th September 1630 in Balcombe, Sussex . Edward married Sarah Burt on 11th April 1654 in Cuckfield, Sussex. She was the only child of Walter Burt of Cuckfield. Edward left a 'Will' that was dated 18th April 1699 and he was buried on 20th April 1703 in Balcombe, Sussex ('of Casty'). Sarah left a 'Will' dated 12th November 1707 and was buried on 27th April 1709 in Balcombe, Sussex. Edward & Sarah had six children.
    1. Susan Faulconer  was baptised on 25th September 1655 in Balcombe, Sussex. She was mentioned in her grandfather Walter Burt's 'Will'. She married Thomas Bowra (of New Shoreham) on 7th February 1680 (license issued at Lewes). Sarah & Thomas had one child (Thomas) who was mentioned in his grandmother Sraha's 'Will' of 1707.
    2. Sarah Faulconer  was baptised on 16th February 1657 in Balcombe, Sussex. She was mentioned in her father's 'Will' of 1699 and in her mother's 'Will' of 1707. Mentioned in her grandfather Walter Burt's 'Will'. Sarah left a 'Will' dated 29th December 1726 and she was buried on 11th November 1727 in West Hoathly, Sussex.
    3. John Faulconer  was baptised on 11th April 1658 in Balcombe, Sussex. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1699, in his mother's 'Will' of 1707 (as overseer) and in his brother George's 'Will' of 1718. Had "Grasslands" in Cuckfield under his grandfather Walter Burt's 'Will'. He married firstly Elizabeth Hamlyn on 9th June 1691 (license at Lewes). He married secondly Mary, who was named in her husband's 'Will' of 1730. John left a 'Will' dated 24th September 1730 and he was buried on 19th October 1730 in Balcombe, Sussex.
    4. Mary Faulconer was mentioned in her grandfather Walter Burt's 'Will'.
    5. Walter Faulconer  was baptised on 14th February 1666 in Balcombe, Sussex. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1699, in his mother's 'Will' of 1707, in his sister Sarah's 'Will' of 1726 and in his brother John's 'Will' of 1730. He inherited Seamans & Coopers in Cuckfield under his mother's 'Will'. He married Elizabeth Plaw on 22nd April 1706 in Cuckfield, Sussex. Walter was buried on 16th February 1730 in Balcombe, Sussex. Walter & Elizabeth had three children (William, Henry & Elizabeth).
    6. Anne Faulconer  (Ann) was baptised on 26th March 1668 in Balcombe, Sussex. She was mentioned in her father's 'Will' of 1699, in her mother's 'Will' of 1707, in her sister Sarah's 'Will' of 1726 (as executrix). She married William Hamlyn on 5th December 1689 in West Hoathly, Sussex (license issued at Lewes on 9th November - William shown as a widower of West Hoathly and Ann a maiden of Balcombe). William had previously married Mary Brown (license issued at Lewes on 1st January 1687 - both of West Hoathly). Mary was buried on 5th February 1689 in West Hoathly, Sussex. William was overseer to his mother in law Sarah Faulconer's 'Will' of 1707. William left a 'Will' dated 7th August 1741. Anne was mentioned in her husband's 'Will' and she left a 'Will' dated 17th January 1744. (NOTE: Somewhere in here is a link to Sarah Brown who married Oliver Stidulph (see John Brown 1639 -ref 2 E) and was also mentioned in Sarah Faulconer's 'Will'- but link is not clear- see Wills) Sarah was presumably a grandaughter of William, but unclear.
    7. Edward Faulconer  was baptised on 3th December 1669 in Balcombe, Sussex. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1699, in his mother's 'Will' of 1707, in his sister Sarah's 'Will' of 1726 and in his brother John's 'Will' of 1730. Had lands called 'Rowhill' & 'Groveland' in Cuckfield. He married Mary Hoader on 23rd October 1712 in All Saints, Lewes, Sussex. He left a 'Will' dated 1st November 1745 and he was buried on 29th November 1745 in Balcombe, Sussex. Mary was executrix to her husband's 'Will' of 1745. Edward & Mary had four children (Edward, Anne, Mary, Elizabeth - Source 1 has additional information of children)
    8. George Faulconer  was baptised on 8th June 1671 in Balcombe, Sussex. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1699, in his mother's 'Will' of 1707, in his sister Sarah's 'Will' of 1726 and in his brother John's 'Will' of 1730 (as dead). He married Jane Brown on 28th September 1698 in St Georges Southwark, London ( Jane of Gronstead & George of Balcombe, Sussex). Jane was the daughter of John & Jane Brown of East Grinstead, the son of Theophillus Brown, the son of John Brown 1558 & Juliane (ref 6 D i) and was baptised on 15th October 1675 (source 2 says baptism was 20th July 1680 in West Hoathly (see John Brown 1546 ref 1 D vi) but this is inconsitent with marriage record)  He left a 'Will' dated 28th February 1718, died on 30th May 1720 and he was buried on 2nd June 1720 in Balcombe, Sussex. His wife Jane was mentioned in her husband's 'Will' of 1718. George & Jane had seven children (Edward (1700), John, Henry, George, Thomas, Mary & Henry (1719) - Source 2 has additional information of children).
    9. Henry Faulconer  was baptised on 30th December 1674 in Balcombe, Sussex. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1699, in his mother's 'Will' of 1707 (both as executor). He inherited Eaglesford in Twineham from his mother's 'Will'. He married Mary Marchant on 5th June 1711 in Balcombe, Sussex. He left a 'Will' dated 24th December 1730 and was buried on 16th March 1731 in Balcombe, Sussex. His wife Mary was executrix of her husband's 'Will' of 1730. Henry & Mary had eight children (Henry, John, William, Henry, Mary, Anne, Sarah - Source 1 has additional information of children & grandchildren.)

  1. There were numerous differant spellings of "Faulconer" in the parish registers eg (Faulconer,Fawlkner,Faucknore,Faulkner, Faukner,Fawkner, Faucknoure, Fackner )

Wills:

  1. Edward Faulconer (family ref 6) left a 'Will' that was dated 18th April 1699 and was proved on 17th May 1703 (ref Lewes A45.P112) .
  2. Sarah Faulconer (family ref 6) left a 'Will' dated 12th November 1707 and was proved on 9th December 1709 (ref Lewes A47.P251). The link is to an Abstract of the 'Will'. The 'Will' mentions sons John, Walter, Edward, George & Henry; daughters Sarah, Anne Hamlin; grandchildren: Thomas Bowra, children of my son George ( Edward, John, George and Henry), William son of Walter; son in law William Hamlin; Overseers son John Faulconer & William Hamlin; Executor son Henry.
  3. Sarah Faulconer (family ref 6 B) left a 'Will' dated 29th December 1726 and was proved on 24th November 1727 (ref Lewes A52.P391). The link is to an Abstract of the 'Will'. The 'Will' mentions brothers Edward, George, John, Walter & Henry; sister Anne Hamlyn wife of William;
    neices/nepthews Mary, Anne & Elizabeth children of Edward and Mary, John, George & Henry children of George (all under 21); other Sarah Brown daughter of Thomas Brown (under 21); Executor sister Anne ; Witnesses Anne Wheeler, Farthingando Pelling & Thomas Short.
  4. John Faulconer (family ref 6 C) left a 'Will' dated 24th September 1730 and was proved on 4th August 1731 (ref Lewes A53.P262)
  5. William Hamlin (family ref 6 E) left a 'Will' dated 7th August 1741 and was proved on 11th January 1744 (Lewes A56.P386). WILLIAM HAMLIN of West Hoathly , yeoman. Messuage, farm, &c, called Brookhouse, in West Hoathly, to wife Anne for life, and after her death to Oliver Stidulph, late of Eaton Bridge , but now of Penshurst, co. Kent, clothier, remainder to his wife, Sarah Stidulph, remainder to their son Hamlin Stidulph, my godson, but to pay £50 each to each of his brothers William and Thomas Stidulph. Messuage, &c, called Falling Mill Lands, in Ardingly and West Hoathly , to wife for life, remainder to godson William Hamlin, youngest son of Thomas Hamlin of Lindfield, gent. Residuary legatee and executrix, wife Anne. Dated 7 August 1741. Proved 11 January 1743/4 by executrix.
  6. Anne Hamlin (family ref 6 E) left a 'Will' dated 17th January 1744 and was proved on 21st February 1744 (ref A56.P398).
  7. Edward Faulconer (family ref 6 F) left a 'Will' that was dated 1st November 1745 and was proved on 13th September 1749 (Lewes A58. P76).
  8. Henry Faulconer (family ref 6 H) left a 'Will' that was dated 24th December 1730 and was proved on 12th June 1731.
