Edward Faulconer & Anne were one of my 13th generation Ancestors. 

Key Dates:

Edward Faulconer was the son of William Faulconer & Anne.  He was appointed executor to his father's ‘Will’ of 1558 and inherited from him ‘Rowhill’ and ‘Heggeland.’  Edward was a yeoman of Balcombe, Sussex and owned at his death property called Rowhill.  He married Anne. Edward left a ‘Will’ dated 8th January 1588 and he was buried on 28th January 1588 in Balcombe, Sussex (shown as Faulkner).  Anne was mentioned in her husband's 'Will' of 1588.

Edward & Anne had eleven children:

  1. John Faulconer was born about 1560. He was of Combsickers in Balcombe, Sussex and also held lands in the parish of Worth, Sussex.  He was mentioned in his father's ‘Will’ of 1588 (as executor and residual beneficiary).  John married Susan in about 1589. He was executor to Alexander Payne's 'Will' of 1610. John left a ‘Will’ which was dated 4th April 1621 and he died on 22nd July and was buried on 24th July 1623 in Balcombe, Sussex (source 1 says 1624).   Susan was mentioned in her husband's ‘Will’ of 1621. John & Susan had ten known children.
    1. Henry Faulconer was baptised on 28th October 1589 in Balcombe.  He was mentioned in Alexander Payne's 'Will' of 1610 as eldest son of John Faukner. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1621 as eldest son and Executor and inherited all his lands. Henry first married Anne (Agnes) Infield on 1st February 1621 in West Hoathly. Anne was mentioned in her father in law John Faulconer's 'Will' of 1621 as wife of eldest son. Anne (or Agnes) was the daughter of Richard Infield & Catherine of West Hoathly and was born in about March 1596 (see church plaque on death). She was buried in West Hoathly on 22nd September 1635 ('Agnes, wife of Henry, aged 39 years 6 months').  They had two children (i-ii): Henry secondly married Elizabeth Thomas daughter of William Thomas, Esq., of Lewes and West Dean, on 7th March 1638 at All Saints in Lewes, Sussex. (Lewes license issued 28th February 1638).  She was buried on 21st October 1645 in West Hoathly ('wife of Henry'). (SxG say Henry thirdly married Anne who was appointed executor of his will and they had the five children : NOTE: I am very unsure of this as dates given by source 1 would make Henry 70 at birth of first child and I therefore assume their was a son Henry- see child iii).
      1. Anne Faulconer was baptised on 5th May 1623 in West Hoathly (dau of Harrie & Anne) and she was buried there on 27th July 1623.
      2. Iningfield Faulconer was baptised on 23rd November 1624 in West Hoathly (son of Harrie & Anne). He was mentioned in his uncle Richard Infield's ‘Will’ of 1625 (see Archive ref 3) and was buried on 24th April 1627 in West Hoathly.
      3. Henry Faulconer was born in about 1626 possibly in West Hoathly, Sussex (derived as no birth records found). Henry married Anne. Henry left a 'Will' dated 23rd May 1676 and was probably buried on 31st May 1676 in West Hoathly, Sussex. Anne was mentioned in her husband's will of 1676 (as executor).
        1. Susanna Faulconer was maybe possibly born in about 1657. She was mentioned in her father's will of 1676 as under 21.
        2. Valentine Faulconer was baptised on 14th February 1660 in West Hoathly. He was mentioned in his father's will of 1676 as under 21.
        3. Edward Faulconer was baptised on 4th April 1661 in West Hoathly and buried there on 17th May 1661.
        4. Benjamin Faulconer was baptised on 4th September 1663 in West Hoathly. He was mentioned in his father's will of 1676 as under 21. He was a voter in East Grinstead in 1705. In 1714 he paid a fine in respect of lands in Balcombe. Benjamin possibly married Judith Page on 6th November 1698 by licence at East Grinstead. Judith was probably buried in East Grinstead, Sussex on 15th December 1743 (un-named, but shown as 'Mrs' and presumed to be Judith) and Benjamin was buried on 28th January 1736 in East Grinstead, Sussex.
        5. Mary Faulconer was baptised on 23rd March 1669 in West Hoathly. She was mentioned in her father's will of 1676 as under 21.
    2. John Faulconer was baptised on 21st March 1591 in Balcombe.  He was known as John the younger of Casty. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1621 as under 24.  Details of John Faulconer are shown separately.
    3. Timothea Faulconer was baptised on 16th July 1592 in Balcombe. She was mentioned in her father's ‘Will’ of 1621 as eldest daughter.
    4. Sarah Faulconer was baptised on 16th February 1595 in Balcombe. She was mentioned in her father's ‘Will’ of 1621.
    5. Anne Faulconer was baptised on 6th June 1596 in Balcombe. She was mentioned in her father's ‘Will’ of 1621. She possibly married Richard Teynton on 1st January 1627 in West Hoathly, Sussex (shown as Faulkner). Richard was the rector of West Hoathly from 1614-1643 and Of Ardingly from 1625. He was a overseer to Edward Browne's 'Will' of 1627 and shown as cousin. Richard & Anne had five children; Anne (in West Hoathly); Samuel, William, Edmund & Henry (in Ardingly). Anne was buried on 14th May 1646 in West Hoathly, Sussex (Anne Teynton, widow).
    6. Mary Faulconer was baptised on 16th July 1598 in Balcombe. She was mentioned in her father's ‘Will’ of 1621.
    7. Edward Faulconer was baptised on 28th September 1600 in Balcombe. He was mentioned in his father's ‘Will’ of 1621 as under 24.
    8. James Faulconer was baptised on 1st May 1603 in Balcombe. He was mentioned in his father's ‘Will’ of 1621 as under 24. James was buried on 5th June 1625 in West Hoathly (' a young man').
    9. William Faulconer was born in about 1606 . He was mentioned in his father's ‘Will’ of 1621 as under 24.
    10. Elizabeth Faulconer was baptised on 16th August 1609 in Balcombe. She was mentioned in her father's ‘Will’ of 1621 as under 21.
  2. Joan Faulconer was baptised on 5th November 1561 in Balcombe.  She was mentioned in her father's ‘Will’ of 1588 (as Johane).   Joan (shown as Fawlconer) married Nicholas Burt of Cleavers, Cuckfield on 8th May 1580 in Balcombe. Nicholas was baptised on 2nd December 1549 in Balcombe and buried on 30th May 1620 in Cuckfield ('Of Cleavers', shown as Bert).  Nicholas left a ‘Will’ dated 20th May 1620 and proved on 20th June 1620 (Lewes A17.P110). Joan was mentioned in her husband's ‘Will’ of 1620 (as executor). Joan was buried on 9th July 1628 in Cuckfield ('widow, of Cleavers'). Nicholas and Joane had the following children:
    1. Nicholas Burt was born in about 1582. He was mentioned in his grandfather Edward Faulconer's ‘Will’ of 1588.
    2. Ann Burt was born in about 1584. She was mentioned in her grandfather Edward Faulconer's ‘Will’ of 1588.
    3. William Burt was born in about 1586. He was mentioned in his grandfather Edward Faulconer's ‘Will’ of 1588.
    4. Henry Burt was born in about 1588. He was mentioned in his grandfather Edward Faulconer's ‘Will’ of 1588 (as godson).
  3. Catherine Faulconer was born in about 1565. She was mentioned in her father's 'Will' of 1588 (as under 24 and unmarried).
  4. Henry Faulconer was baptised on 6th May 1566 in Balcombe.  He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1588. He married Joan Brett.  Details of Henry Faulconer & Joan Brett are shown separately as they are direct ancestors.
  5. Thomas Faulconer was born in about 1569. He was a yeoman of East Grinstead.  He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1588.  He was granted administration of his cousin, Richard Faulconer of Ripe's estate in 1646.  He left a ‘Will’ dated 6th December 1650 and proved on 11th February 1652 (PCC 28 Bowyer) and therefore assume in died in about 1651.  In his will he mentions the four eldest daughters of Thomas Fuller, blacksmith of Lindfield, Sussex and cousin John Worth of Hurst.
  6. Bridget Faulconer was baptised on 23rd December 1572 in Balcombe, Sussex and was buried there on 16th February 1575 ('daughter of Edward Fawlconer').
  7. Elizabeth Faulconer was born in about 1574. She was mentioned in her father's 'Will' of 1588 (as under 24 and unmarried).
  8. Edward Faulconer was baptised on 11th April 1576 in Balcombe. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1588. He was of Rowhill and Denman's in Cuckfield.  Edward (shown as Fawkner) married Margaret Lashmer on 9th May 1605 in Cuckfield.  They had three children:
    1. Thomasine Faulconer was baptised on 6th September 1607 in Cuckfield.
    2. William Faulconer was baptised on 8th January 1610 in Cuckfield. He was mentioned in his sisters ‘Will’.
    3. Henry Faulconer was baptised on 21st June 1618 in Cuckfield.
  9. George Faulconer was born in about 1578. He was mentioned in his father's 'Will' of 1588 (as under 21).
  10. Ellice Faulconer was baptised on 27th March 1580 in Balcombe, Sussex and was buried there on 17th May 1580 (shown as Ellis).
  11. Anne Faulconer was born in about 1582. She was mentioned in her father's 'Will' of 1588 (as under 24 and unmarried).

Henry Faulconer 1589

He was of ‘Gravetye.’  He was an executor to his father's will and had all his lands.  He admistered to the lands of Richard Faulconer of Ripe and mentioned in the will of his uncle Thomas Faulconer.  He was executor in his brother in law Richard Infield's 'Will' of 1625 and in his mother-in-law, Katherine Infield 'Will' of 1643.  He was a plaintiff in fines of Gravetye in 1635 & 1647. Henry sold Gravetye to Edward Payne of East Grinstead and named as living in his ‘Will’ of 1658.  He was named in and witnessed the ‘Will’ of John Hamlyn of West Hoathly on 1 December 1663. He held Westupps, late Newmans in Balcombe.

  1. Edward Faulconer (Family ref top) left a ‘Will’ was dated 8th January 1588 and proved on 3rd March 1588 (ref Lewes A8.P180).  The link is to a Transcript of the 'Will'. The 'Will' mentions his wife Anne ; his sons John (executor & residual beneficiary), Edward, Thomas, George (under 21), Henry ; his daughters Catheryn, Elizabeth, Anne (all under 24 and unmarried), Joan (Johane) ; his grandchildren Nicholas, Anne, Willam & Henry (godson) children of Joan ; his goddaughter Joan Courtuppe, John Smeede . Overseers were George Alfraye and Willam Willman . Witnesses were Willam Willman, George Alfraye . Properties mentioned were Rowhill.
  2. John Faulconer (Family ref 1) left a ‘Will’ which was dated 4th April 1621 and proved on 7th July 1624 (ref Lewes A18.P172). The link is to a Transcript of the 'Will'. The 'Will' mentions his wife Susan; his sons Henry (eldest- executor and residual beneficiary), John, Edward, James, William (last four sons all under 24); his daughters Timothy (eldest), Sarah, Anne, Mary, Elizabeth (under 21) ; his grandchildren John, Susan; . Others were Thomas Worde (kinsman & servant), Henry Gray (apprentice servant), Anne wife of eldest son ; Overseers were Thomas Shepheard of Epsom, attorney and John Newman of Balcombe the elder ; Witnesses were Daniell Booth, rector of Balcombe, writer of this will, Ellis Jeyner.
  3. Henry Faulconer (Family ref 1 A iii) left a 'Will' dated 23rd May and was proved on 14th July 1676 (ref Lewes A34.P209). The link is to a Transcript of the 'Will'. The 'Will' mentions his wife Anne (executor); his sons Benjamin (under 21), Valentine (under 21); his daughters Susanna, Mary (both under 21); Witnesses ere Edward Ffaulkner, Ninyon Tasker, Alex Luxford; Properties were Newmans & Westupps.
