Joseph Dungate & Sarah Heasman were one of my 10th generation ancestors.

Key Dates:

Joseph Dungate (Dungat) was baptised on 13th April 1628 in East Grinstead, Sussex. He was the son of of Stephen Dungate & Ann Cripps. He was mentioned in his father's will of 1652 and his sister Sarah's will of 1666. He married Sarah Heasman (or Heaseman or Heseman) on 2nd November 1652 in Barcombe. Joseph left a 'Will' dated 13th February 1667 in which he mentions his wife Sarah and appoints her as executor. Joseph was buried on 20th April 1667 in East Grinstead, Sussex. He owned properties Wood Riddens, Munkshill, Highcroft (or Middlefield) & Homewood all in East Grinstead.

Sarah Heasman was baptised on 10th July 1636 in Barcombe, Sussex the daughter of Henry Heasman. Sarah possibly married secondly Henry Ives on 22nd May 1677 in Cuckfield, Sussex (license issued at Lewes on 22nd May with Sarah shown of East Grinstead and Henry of Cuckfield). If Sarah married Henry, she was buried in Lindfield, Sussex on 10th March 1720 in East Grinstead, Sussex ('wife of Henry').

  1. John Dungate was baptised on 3rd January 1654 in East Grinstead, Sussex. He was mentioned in his fathers 'Will' of 1667, his aunt Sarah's will of 1667 and his aunt Joan's will of 1693.
  2. Stephen Dungate was baptised in November 1656 in East Grinstead, Sussex (no day given and mother shown as Elizabeth rather than Sarah, but is presumed to be an error). He was mentioned in his fathers 'Will' of 1667, his aunt Sarah's 'Will' of 1667 and his aunt Joan's 'Will' of 1693. He probably married Ann Groombridge on 24th October 1697 in Worth, Sussex (license issued at Lewes on 23rd October and Stephen shown as of East Grinstead). Stephen was possibly buried on 22nd January 1712 in East Grinstead, Sussex.
  3. Joseph Dungate was baptised on 3rd February 1660 in East Grinstead, Sussex. He was mentioned in his fathers 'Will' of 1667 and his aunt Joan's will of 1693. He married Ann Dungate. Details of Joseph Dungate & Ann Dungate are shown separately as they are direct ancestors.
  4. Henry Dungate (Henery) was baptised on 18th March 1663 in East Grinstead, Sussex. He was mentioned in his fathers 'Will' of 1667 and his aunt Joan's will of 1693. Henry married Elizabeth Ives on 8th May 1685 in Slaugham, Sussex (license issued at Lewes on 28th April - Henry of East Grinstead & Elizabeth of Cuckfield) . Henry left a 'Will' that was dated 2nd October 1714 and he was buried on 23rd June 1715 in East Grinstead, Sussex ('Yeoman'). Henry & Elizabeth had at least three children.
    1. Henry Dungate was baptised on 3rd August 1688 in East Grinstead, Sussex. Henry was probably buried on 3rd February 1714 in East Grinstead, Sussex (' a young man') - ( not mentioned in his fathers 'Will').
    2. John Dungate was baptised on 7th April 1691 in East Grinstead, Sussex. He probably married Rebecca Colegate (Rebecka) on 19th May 1715 at St Bride's, London (Rebecca shown as of Hadlow, Kent and John as of East Grinstead). Rebecca was the daughter of Reuben Colegate, the son of Stephen Colegate & Mary. John & Rebecca had six children.
      1. Reuben Dungate was baptised on 17th October 1716 in East Grinstead, Sussex.
      2. John Dungate was baptised on 1st October 1717 in East Grinstead, Sussex.
      3. Rebecca Dungate was baptised on 13th March 1719 in East Grinstead, Sussex.
      4. Henry Dungate was baptised on 3rd March 1721 in East Grinstead, Sussex.
      5. Elizabeth Dungate was baptised on 22nd March 1723 in East Grinstead, Sussex.
      6. Stephen Dungate was baptised on 3rd February 1730 in Rotherfield, Sussex and he was buried there on 8th April 1730 ('son of John').
    3. Joseph Dungate was baptised on 28th September 1694 in East Grinstead, Sussex and he was buried there on 24th July 1695 (' son of Henry').
  5. Anne Dungate was baptised on 7th November 1666 in East Grinstead, Sussex. She was mentioned in her fathers 'Will' of 1667. Anne was buried on 20th April 1667 in East Grinstead, Sussex.

Wills:

  1. Joseph Dungate left a 'Will' dated 13th February 1667. He mentions his wife Sarah, his sons John, Stephen, Joseph & Henry and his daughter Anne. He also mentions his brother in law Henry Faulconer junior and his kinsman John Birser?. The will is witnessed by Henry Faulconer senior and Edward Lucas.The link is to a transcript of the will.
