Verification & Concerns Returns to 'Top of Page'

  1. There are a number of slight name variations in the parish records (Daniel, Daniels, Danel, Danels, Danell, Danells, Daniell, Danyell). Daniel tended to be used up to about 1800 and then Daniels became the standard.
  2. There are no parish records found for 'Daniel' in the parishes of Charlwood, Crowhurst, Horley, Limpsfield or Worth.
  3. There are two Thomas Daniel's found for the period 1710-1734 ( (age at marriage of 16 to age 60 at birth of youngest child).
    1. 21/09/1722 in Cowden, son of Edith
    2. 31/10/1731 in Godstone, son of John & Ann
    3. Both Cowden & Godstone are adjacent parishes to Lingfield so only short distances involved. However the full picture of all Daniels including Edenbridge and Godstone have not yet been mapped and not all children of Edward Daniel & Sarah Page have been identified (see Edward 1660). In addition the name Edward appears very important to the family as both this family and the next name the first male child Edward, rather than Thomas after the father. This tends to indicate that the chosen ancestry line is correct.
  4. 1841 Census
    1. Godstone shows Robert 40 (church Street) and Jessey 35 (village)
    2. Hartfield shows Edward 40, Sarah 35 living at Yew trees
    3. Hartfield shows Edward 75, William 35, Elizabeth 35, William 12, Mary 10, Harriet 4, Philly 2 living at Reeds & Sarah 15 living at Bolebrook
