Thomas Colegate & Jane Chary were not one of my direct ancestors but they are probably related to me as later generations of a direct ancestor.

Key Dates:

Thomas Colegate was maybe possibly born in about 1660 possibly in Speldhurst, Kent (derived as no birth records found and may not be a son of Stephen). He was maybe possibly the son of Stephen Colgate & Mary. He married Jane Chary on 29th January 1683 in Ightham, Kent (shown as Colgate). Thomas was buried on 3rd January 1729 in Ightham, Kent.

Jane Chary ( Jana) was possibly born on 22nd January and was baptised on 12th February 1663 in Ightham, Kent. She was the daughter of Thomas & Anne Chary. (Note: Thomas was possibly baptised 6th May 1627 in Ightham, Kent the son of John & Elizabeth Charie) . Jane was buried on 4th December 1730 in Ightham, Kent ('widow').

  1. John Colegate was baptised on 29th January 1684 in East Peckham, Kent.
  2. Thomas Colegate was baptised on 21st February 1685 in East Peckham, Kent. He possibly married Ann Watts on 11th October 1716 in Addington, Kent (Addington is about 5km east of Ightham). Thomas & Ann had seven children.
    1. William Colegate was baptised on 4th August 1717 in Addington, Kent.
    2. Thomas Colegate was baptised on 7th December 1718 in Addington, Kent.
    3. Thomas Colegate was baptised on 11th April 1726 in Addington, Kent.
    4. John Colegate was baptised on 27th November 1727 in Addington, Kent. He possibly married Mary. John & Mary had possibly eight children (see archives).
      1. Mary Colegate was baptised on 10th December 1749 in Ightham, Kent.
      2. John Colegate was baptised on 25th January 1751 in Ightham, Kent. He is presumed to have died prior to 1755
      3. Letitia Maria Colegate was baptised on 22nd October 1752 in Ightham, Kent.
      4. John Colegate was baptised on 18th May 1755 in West Peckham, Kent. John married Hester. John was probably buried on 10th Dec 1826 in Wrotham, Kent ('aged 71')
        1. George Colegate was baptised on 19th January 1794 in Plaxtol, Kent (christened Plaxtol, born in Wrotham according to 1851 census, but born in Plaxtol in 1861 census - census also shows various years of birth) He married Mary Baldwin on 27th April 1819 in West Peckham, Kent (George Colgate of Seal - Mary shown in Census as of Wrotham). George & Mary had six children in Seal (Fawke common) (Thomas, Elizabeth, John, George, Ellen, Mary)
      5. William Colegate was baptised on 30th January 1757 in West Peckham, Kent.
      6. Martha Colegate was baptised on 29th October 1758 in West Peckham, Kent.
      7. Thomas Colegate was baptised on 4th January 1761 in West Peckham, Kent. He possibly married Elizabeth Eastland on 29th May 1785 in Tonbridge, Kent (Tonbridge is about 7km south west of West Peckham). Thomas & Elizabeth had six children.
        1. Edward Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 26th December 1785 in Tonbridge, Kent. He was possibly buried on 2nd May 1806 in Tonbridge, Kent.
        2. Elizabeth Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 30th September 1787 in Tonbridge, Kent. Se was possibly buried on 4nd June 1826 in Tonbridge, Kent.
        3. Charlotte Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 29th November 1789 in Tonbridge, Kent.
        4. Anne Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 12th August 1792 in Tonbridge, Kent. She was possibly buried on 15th August 1837 in Tonbridge, Kent.
        5. Thomas Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 30th November 1794 in Tonbridge, Kent. He was possibly buried on 2nd April 1823 in Tonbridge, Kent.
        6. Deborah Colegate was baptised on 29th May 1799 in Tonbridge, Kent.
      8. George Colegate was baptised on 16th January 1763 in West Peckham, Kent.
    5. Richard Colegate was baptised on 1st June 1729 in Addington, Kent.
    6. Mary Colegate was baptised on 26th September 1731 in Addington, Kent.
    7. Anne Colegate was baptised on 26th September 1731 in Addington, Kent.
  3. Richard Colegate was baptised on 22nd February 1687 in Ightham, Kent.
  4. Elizabeth Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 20th July 1690 in Rotherfield, Sussex.
  5. Nicholas Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 5th June 1692 in Rotherfield, Sussex. He possibly married Anne Lemmy on 17th October 1717 in Wrotham, Kent.
  6. Mary Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 1st April 1694 in Rotherfield, Sussex.
  7. William Colegate was baptised on 27th May 1700 in Ightham, Kent.
  8. Jane Colegate was baptised on 6th December 1702 in Ightham, Kent.
  9. Martha Colegate was baptised on 10th March 1705 in Ightham, Kent.

    The Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Ightham in the County of Kent aforesaid do hereby own and acknowledge John Colegate and Mary his wife and Mary, Letitia Maria and John their children to be all of them inhabitants of Ightham.     1. 1725, Edward Colegate, Mercy his wife; children William, Edward, John. Legal residence Nettlested.
    2. 1812, William Colegate, Ann his wife, John, child one year; West Peckham -- intended; sent to Leyborne. Ann ill, so removal delayed until her recovery.
  3. Orders of Removal: (Wrotham, LDS Film 1835781)
    1. Richard and Ann Colegate, children Robert and Ann (unfortunately no ages), dated 4 March 1780, the fourth year of the reign of George the Second, order of removal from Wrotham to Meopham (stated as their legal residence).
