Henry Colegate & Jane Lyntot were not one of my direct ancestors but they are related to me as later indirect generations of a direct ancestor.

Key Dates:

Henry Colegate (Henrie) was baptised on 16th October 1608 in Penshurst, Kent (son of Michael). He was the son of Michael Colegate & Joan Soas, the son of Matthew Colegate & Ursula Becher . He married Jane Lyntot on 18th July 1640 in Bolney, Sussex (Henry Colgate shown as from Uckfield). Jane was buried on 27th June 1666 in Uckfield, Sussex ('wife of Henry Colgate'). Henry possibly left a 'Will' dated 1681 leaving land in Penshurst to his son Robert (source RCTI).

Jane Lyntot's birth details are not known.

  1. Anne Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 15th August 1641 in Uckfield, Sussex. She possibly married Henry Chatfield on 1st May 1666 in Uckfield, Sussex.
  2. Henry Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 23rd April 1643 in Uckfield, Sussex. He possibly married Elizabeth Benbrooke on 30th March 1676 in Ringmer, Sussex (License issued in South Mailing on 27th March with Robert Colegate of Lewes (a goldsmith) providing suriety, and Henry Colgat shown as of Uckfield). Henry & Elizabeth possibly had one child. Following Henry's death Elizabeth possibly married secondly Thomas Holden (Hollman) on 30th June 1685 in Ringmer, Sussex (License issued in South Mailing on 29th June- Elizabeth widow of Uckfield & Thomas Holden of Framfield).
    1. Henry Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 17th April 1677 in Uckfield, Sussex and he was possibly buried there on 11th April 1682 ('son of Henry Colgate').
  3. Robert Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 26th January 1645 in Uckfield, Sussex. He probably married Sarah Durrant on 25th April 1676 in Uckfield, Sussex. (but see also Matthew Colegate family ref ref 2 D). Robert was possibly buried on 4th June 1724 in Uckfield, Sussex ('of New Place'). Sarah was possibly buried on 7th February 1740 in Uckfield, Sussex (' widow from Framfield, Colgate'). Robert & Sarah had four known children.
    1. Henry Colegate was baptised on 16th March 1677 in Fletching, Sussex. He possibly married Elizabeth Peckham on 2nd April 1700 (license issued at Lewes on 28th March - Henry Colgate shown as from Uckfield). Elizabeth was possibly buried on 4th January 1709 in Uckfield, Sussex (' wife of Henry Colgate'). Henry possibly left a 'Will' proved on 16th May 1714 (source RCTI). Henry & Elizabeth had four known children.
      1. Henry Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 31st January 1701 in Uckfield, Sussex. He possibly married Elizabeth Ridge on 1st November 1737 in Tonbridge, Kent (Henry shown as from Uckfield). Henry & Elizabeth had three known children.
        1. John Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 11th January 1738 in Uckfield, Sussex.
        2. Elizabeth Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 21st April 1740 in Uckfield, Sussex.
        3. Mary Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 8th December 1743 in Uckfield, Sussex.
      2. Elizabeth Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 11th December 1702 in Uckfield, Sussex.
      3. John Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 28th March 1705 in Uckfield, Sussex.
      4. Mary Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 20th February 1707 in Uckfield, Sussex.

    3. Robert Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 17th September 1681 in Uckfield, Sussex. He possibly married Elizabeth Earle on 2nd May 1710 in Framfield, Sussex (shown as Colgate). Elizabeth was possibly buried on 7th January 1735 in Framfield, Sussex (shown as Coldgate). Robert & Elizabeth had three known children.
      1. Elizabeth Colegate was baptised on 10th February 1711 in Framfield, Sussex. Elizabeth was possibly buried on 23rd August 1776 in Framfield, Sussex (shown as Colgate).
      2. Robert Colegate was baptised on 3rd March 1712 in Framfield, Sussex. He probably married Mary Cornwall on 5th January 1738 in Framfield, Sussex. Robert was possibly buried on 2nd April 1771 in Framfield, Sussex and Mary was probably buried there on 10th May 1792 (widow, aged 74'). Robert & Mary had six known children.
        1. Sarah Colegate (Coldgate) was baptised on 23rd October 1737 in Framfield, Sussex. She probably married John Cripps on 26th November 1758 in Framfield, Sussex.
        2. Mary Colegate (Coldgate) was baptised on 26th October 1738 in Framfield, Sussex. She probably married Robert Driver on 17th April 1759 in Framfield, Sussex.
        3. Henry Colegate was baptised on 30th December 1741 in Framfield, Sussex. He was mentioned in his mother's Mary 'Will' of 1771. He firstly married Hannah Hickes on 30th November 1768 in Framfield, Sussex (License issued at Lewes on 26th November and Henry shown as a farmer aged 26 from Framfield, Hannah shown as age 28). He secondly married Jane Roots on 21st November 1776 in Framfield, Sussex ( License issued at Lewes on 16th November and Henry Colgate shown as a widower and Jane aged 21). Jane was probably buried on 27th February 1806 in Framfield, Sussex (married, aged 56') and Henry was buried there on 5th October 1807 (widower, aged 65'). Henry & Jane had eight children.
          1. Henry Colegate was born in about 1769 in Framfield, Sussex (derived as no birth details found). He was buried on 26th November 1789 in Framfield, Sussex (Colgate, batchelor, aged 20).
          2. Robert Colegate was baptised on 15th October 1777 in Framfield, Sussex.
          3. Jane Colegate was baptised on 8th April 1779 in Framfield, Sussex.
          4. John Colegate was baptised on 18th October 1780 in Framfield, Sussex.
          5. Thomas Colegate was baptised on 31st December 1782 in Framfield, Sussex and he was buried there on 7th August 1787 ('aged 4', shown as Colgate).
          6. George Colegate was baptised on 12th January 1785 in Framfield, Sussex and he was buried there on 12th July 1788 (aged 3 1/2').
          7. samuel Colegate was baptised on 22nd January 1788 in Framfield, Sussex and he was buried there on 27th January 1788 (aged 2 days').
          8. Hannah Colegate was baptised on 23rd October 1789 in Framfield, Sussex.
          9. Charles Colegate was baptised on 21st January 1792 in Framfield, Sussex.
        4. Robert Colegate was baptised on 14th September 1743 in Framfield, Sussex. Robert was possibly buried on 28th June 1769 in Framfield, Sussex.
        5. Ann Colegate was baptised on 31st December 1747 in Framfield, Sussex. She possibly had a child baseborn. She married William Collins on 18th October 1771 in Framfield, Sussex. Anne and William were mentioned in her mother's Mary 'Will' of 1771.
          1. Winifred Colegate was baptised on 3rd May 1770 in Framfield, Sussex.
        6. Elizabeth Colegate was baptised on 12th April 1753 in Framfield, Sussex. She was mentioned in her mother's Mary 'Will' of 1771.
      3. John Colegate was baptised on 27th May 1714 in Framfield, Sussex and he was probably buried on 3rd February 1715 in Uckfield, Sussex (son of Robert Colgate, junior).
    4. John Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 7th December 1683 in Uckfield, Sussex and he was buried there on 20th November 1689 ('son of Robert & Sarah Colgate').
  4. Jane Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 9th August 1653 in Uckfield, Sussex. She possibly married William Hoasman on 19th October 1675 in Uckfield, Sussex.
  5. John Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 2nd March 1657 in Uckfield, Sussex. (He was probably also baptised in March 1657 in Fletching, Sussex -day not given & shown as son of Henry from Uckfield). He possibly married Mary Miller on 6th July 1686 in Little Horsted, Sussex (License issued in Lewes on 2nd July with Robert Coulgate of Lewes (a goldsmith) providing suriety and John Coalgate shown as from Uckfield). Mary was possibly buried on 16th April 1730 in Fletching, Sussex ('wife of John of Uckfield'). John & Mary had five known children.
    1. Mary Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 19th October 1687 in Uckfield, Sussex. She maybe possibly married Edmond Ward on 24th February 1722 in Uckfield, Sussex.
    2. Jane Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 11th February 1690 in Uckfield, Sussex.
    3. Sarah Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 22nd October 1691 in Uckfield, Sussex and she was probably buried there on 31st December 1708 ('daughter of John Colgate').
    4. John Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 17th May 1693 in Uckfield, Sussex.
    5. Robert Colegate (Colgate) was baptised on 27th February 1696 in Uckfield, Sussex.
