Verification & Concerns Returns to 'Top of Page'

  1. Confirmation of Sarah Muddle's birth details (and some other details) is difficult as there are no transcripts of the Mayfield Parish Records for the period 1696-1759. However the date of birth shown is consistent with the age at death so the details are probably correct. The parish of Waldron is adjacent to Mayfield, but the family did not move from Waldron (father buried there and brother married there) yet Sarah was married in Mayfield, thus leaving an area of doubt. However, there is no record in Waldron of either a death or marriage of Sarah Muddle. In addition there were no births of Muddles in Mayfield from 1759-1792 (except George baseborn of Elizabeth in 1772) which implies that no families lived there during that period. In addition there were only two burials in Mayfield from 1737 to 1806 implying few if any permanent residents of Muddle's.
  2. There was only one William Bones baptised around this period in Mayfield, Sussex, but this date is inconsitent with his age at death.. There were no records around the period up to 1759. Therefore it is unclear whether William was baptised late or the age is incorrect (unlikely as consistent with Wife's age) or there were two Williams (one born in 1755 and one in 1763).
